Product description

Manufacturer's Description

M5-450 Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil - Revolutionary! The Kuru Toga lead rotates to keep the tip sharp. The gears of the "Kuru Toga Engine" revolve as the lead is pressed down and lifted off the paper. Each time you write, the lead rotates fractionally to maintain an even, cone-shaped tip that is resistant to breaking.

The Kuru Toga also contains new uni Nano Dia leads. Each pencil lead contains 400 million nano diamonds, giving a super tough lead with a smooth, crisp finish. The lubricating effect of the Nano Diamonds gives strength with a smooth feel, reducing kinetic friction between the paper and the lead allows vivid, clear lines.

0.5mm lead.

What's there to say? This product is simply amazing. Usually with normal mechanical pencils the lead becomes blunt as you press down on the page. However the Toga has a small rotating mechanism in it that rotates the lead every time it touches the page. That way the lead touching the page is always the sharp end. You can keep writing and the lead never gets blunt and faded as with most mechanical pencils

A good product that withstands shocks and strain (its been dropped a few times since being put to use) i have no faults with it, fast delivery and a good high quality product but it cannot replace the traditional pencil!

This pencil is almost perfect! It is superbly engineered for the bargain price that it is. There is something almost genteel about writing with a pencil that is so low tech, just knowing that it wont leak or work intermittantly that is strangely satifying. The only thing that i wish mitsubishi would do is make a stainless steel version or something similar, i would then snatch their hand off to buy one - that is the only reason i say the pencil is almost perfect. The only gripe i did have was that the pencil was a bugger to get out of its packaging, I thought i was gonna break the pencil whilst trying to retrieve it from its card.
Otherwise, its one of the best writing instruments i have ever owned. Thoroughly recommended.

I ordered 2 Uni Kuru Toga Silver Barreled Mechanical Pencils from Amazon.co.uk (more difficult to say than use),which were delivered sooner than promised and very finely packed. As I'm 72 and like to have one close to hand, I might buy a third one yet, so there is usually one near where I am. They are very elegant looking as well, and look far dearer than they are. It is easy to load the leads, their writing is just great, the pencil is delightful to hold (I use a pencil on note pads quite a lot) so that I can rub it out when I have finished with my note ((rubber enclosed in pencil)), thus reusing that page and saving paper several times. The price is just right for a pensioner as well. When telling my friends about it over the 'phone I wish it had had a shorter name like bic or something so that my friends didn't have to disappear to get a biro to write the name down. Thank you Amazon.

looks a bit different from other pencils. Only drawback is that it feels a bit lightweight when you're using it. This is just a personal opinion. Some folk like light, I like a bit of weight on my pencil.

I have been very pleased with this pencil, it writes very well and feels comfortable in my hand. It it good for writing, drawing and even an doodle in a distracted moment.
However, the pocket clip broke after a few months so I was no longer able to keep it in my jacket pocket, the metal point holding the lead is sharp so I would not want it loose in my pocket so it is confined to my desk.
I have since bought another one with a pale blue barrel and a 0.3 mm lead.

Bought as a Christmas present for my engineering brother who found it as funky as I did! Good stuff and very reasonable price.

Superb service by Amazon as usual, product arrived so quickly even using super saver delivery.

It's a neat and ingenious idea to have the lead rotating, which works well. But on examination and use, it's obvious where all the money goes - straight into the Kuro Toga "engine". The rest of the pencil feels very cheap, and the grip really is nothing special.

Put this mechanism into a better quality body and Uni would be onto a winner. Adding a 'shaker' lead advance system to that would make it perfect.

But until then, the offerings from Pilot, Rotring and Ohto are much nicer to use for the same money. For me personally a few days of using this pencil have been interesting but sadly for most of my note-taking I'm going back to my much loved Pilot 'shaker' pencils, where a quick flick of the wrist advances the lead.
