Product Description

Product Description

Double bill of animated family adventures about a panda named Po (voiced by Jack Black). In 'Kung Fu Panda' (2008) Po works in his father's noodle restaurant. Dad (James Hong) wants him to take over the restaurant one day, but Po really wants to learn kung fu. The problem is, with his weight and size - and his clumsiness - Po doesn't seem cut out for kung fu. But then, by accident, he is thrown into the world of the great martial artist, Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim), who believes that Po is the legendary Dragon Warrior. According to Oogway's vision, the Dragon Warrior will save the Valley of Peace from the evil snow leopard, Tai Lung (Ian McShane). The man given the task of training Po is Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman), who cannot believe that Po is really the Dragon Warrior as he has already trained the Furious Five, and believes that one of them is the Dragon Warrior. In 'Kung Fu Panda 2' (2011) Po is now a kung fu master, spending his days working alongside Master Shifu (Hoffman) and The Furious Five - Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross), Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Mantis (Seth Rogen) - to protect the Valley of Peace. But this harmonious new existence comes under threat from the evil emperor peacock Lord Shen (Gary Oldman), who has developed a deadly new weapon with which he plans to conquer China and destroy the ancient art of kung fu.

I'm rating this as 5 stars because they're both visually stunning, and the writing is very good. Everybody raves about Pixar and rightfully so, but I've got to think that the folks at Dreamworks are setting the bar even higher and reaching it, they just don't have the reputation (yet?). These films and How to Train Your Dragon are just soooo visually rich. Little things -- the subtle texture of the character's fur -- show up on the Blu Ray version you don't notice on the regular DVD. I know I'm getting a little carried away here, but I'm glad these were the first two films I purchased when we decided to get a Blu Ray player this Christmas.

A great couple of films - beautifully crafted, funny and charming. Genius stuff......please make a third......

Great news - Just heard their will be Kung Fu Panda 3 - the trailer is cool.......I like the suggestion that the lost dad/son element looks like not being the main focus of the story entirely judging by the joking approach to it......cant wait.....the link below shows the trailer

Po is doing what Po does best, he is protecting the Valley of Peace and eating, don't forget eating! We love Kung Fu Panda in our house, and this box set is great value. I would recommend it and we can't wait to watch Po when he returns for the third instalment with the loveable panda that is Po.

Kung Fu Panda not only does have a great well written plot, but the quality and the beauty of the DreamWorks studio is stunning! I wait with anticipation to watch the Kung Fu Panda 3 (why two years to wait?!)

Stumbled on these by serendipity. Master Oogway! Mr Ping! The teaching of a drop of water!

Try with Karate Kid (the first one - no win no lose: respect) And Kung fu (with david carradine) there are 4 or 5 absolutely stunning episodes.

I own both of these movies and I have to say I would give the first one 5 stars, and the second 4 stars. The reason is that in the second, where he has to fight a peacock (wow, scary), he's fully trained and the Furious Five have accepted Po the Panda into their ranks, where as in the first movie, they hate him and it's fun watching him attempting to learn kung fu. Also, he has to fight a snow leopard (which, I'm sorry, is far cooler than a peacock.) In the second movie we learn of his tragic past, and this adds something to the movie. Best three quotes in Kung Fu Panda are (regarding the secret of the Dragon Scroll) "It's blank!"; )(regarding his ability to defeat Tai Lung) "I'm not just a big fat panda, I'm The big fat panda" and (after Po tells Master Shifu not to die) "I'm not dying, you idiot, erm Dragon Warrior, I'm merely at peace" Action packed movie, but the first one has more comedy in it, as well as martial arts action. Cannot recommend these films highly enough.

I haven't watched the films myself, but since I got the DVDs, my 2 boys are glued to the TV.

I may be a bit too old to be watching animations, but I love them, and I at first refused to watch Kung fu Panda, but when I did, oh my was it worth it!!,, I abosolutely love this movie, the first one of course is uncomparabley hilarious, the second one is great simply because I had already fallen in love with the first one. The second one may not be as great as the first one, but together they make a great team, who can say no to both?
