I purchased this lock as it was recommended by my cycle insurance company. Its a strong heavy duty but compact lock. I find sometimes because of its small size you have to think about how to connect your bike to a solid metal object. Some metal railings or cycle stands dont always make it easy to use this lock. Despite this however the trade off is its relatively light compared to similar class cycle locks which can be a lot bigger and heavier. I have not used the bracket on my mountain bike. I have a very light weight bike and considered that adding this lock to my cycle on a bracket would defeat the object of having a light bike. I usually carry the lock in my ruck sack on my first journey of the week and then leave the log locked to the works cycle stand throughout the week.
I find unlocking it a little fiddly sometimes as you have to have the key in the lock to connect the two parts of the cycle lock together. Access to the lock mechanism can be covered with a piece of plastic that swivels around.
I feel that the lock is a good piece of kit and have confidence that only determined criminals with some serious cutting equipment would dare try to have a go at it.

Small but feels sturdy and safe - so far so good!

Avoid disappointment and check that the size will fit your wheel & frame; on my Ridgeback hybrid it's a snug fit (which was just lucky since I didn't check beforehand).

Arrived promptly, but both products purchased (Kryptoflex 7ft and a mini D-lock) arrived with way too much packaging: a large box filled with paper when a reinforced envelope or a small box would have sufficed.

Good product but excessive packaging, 4 stars.

It is without doubt the safest bike lock I have ever owned, don't be fooled by the word mini. If you ask me, the normal size D locks are to big and clumsy, this is a perfect size, lean your bike against a pole/bike park and it fits snug around the frame and pole, allowing zero movement or leverage for would be thieves. Search this lock on YouTube and watch videos of people trying to brake it!.. This thing is immense! 3 men jumping up and down on it, unable to snap it. I always lock my bike up and walk away with a smug grin knowing that the nearby youths have no chance. And lastly, do not read too much into the moaners unable to figure the bracket out, that too is perfect, I have attached it to the back of my seat, the perfect place, just tighten everything up and it is solid. Honestly this lock is the real deal. I love it.

This is a good solid little lock, silver rated by onguard you know you're getting security, but that is only for what you can actually get the lock around. It is too small and only fits just through the frame. So, it works for locking you're tyre to the frame but you will need to get a second lock to secure your bike properly.

While this lock may be an excellent bicycle thief deterrent the bracket to which you attach the lock is the most diabolically stupid design I have ever come across. To get the lock on and off the bracket you have to hold the bike and pull/push the lock until it comes off/on while I accept that this is minor quibble (it will probably improve with usage) the rattling that the lock makes as it constantly bangs against the bracket causes people on the street to turn around to see what is making the noise (city street that is). I have had many locks in the past and none of them had this problem. I would be amazed if this lock was ever tested during an actual bicycle ride and if it was the tester should be fired. If anyone from Kryptonite is reading this can they get in touch with me and let me know. Has anyone ever actually used this lock as it was intended or does everyone just stick it in their back pocket? This lock is not fit for its intended use.

I will of course recant all the above if I am using the lock/bracket incorrectly but I followed the instructions to the letter.

If like me you will be wondering why buy this lock when there is the same lock available with a cable too for near enough the same price! well the other is the same lock BUT slightly bigger,it's just not as mini as this mini lock, this is the one you see in the back pockets of bike messengers.
Reading the reviews I was worried this lock would be too small,on openning if anything it was slightly bigger than I thought it was going to be,the size is great for the use I will be putting it too,if I wanted to leave my bike outside whilst I was at work etc then I would have bought the kryptonite fahgettaboudit,it is slightly bigger but more than twice the weight.
This lock I would think would need the same type of tools to break as the fahgettaboudit,so if they can break this they could probably break the tougher fahgettaboudit, so I feel for a shop visit or cafe stop it is more than enough,if like me you are in two minds whether to buy this or a bigger lock,go weigh 2kg, which is what the fahgettaboudit weighs and see if you fancy carrying that around all day! More than happy I chose this one!

This is a small lock. So you'll won't have a great deal of choice about where you put it. I find it difficult to secure my bike with this size of lock, because I have a child seat on the back and this affects how close I can park my bike to the bike rack. If I'd known how limiting the size makes it, I would have bought a bigger lock.

I know other reviewers have discussed the fiddly key. Believe me, it is a real fiddle to open and close this lock. It would be great if I could just park my bike, snap the lock into place and walk away. Instead, I have to UNLOCK it before I use it. So, I park the bike, fumble in my bag for my key, put it in the lock to open it, find a suitable mounting point, all the while the keys are dangling from the lock, then I wiggle it for ages to get it shut, turn the key and walk away in a bad mood at all the fiddling around.

This lock may well be safe, but it is a pest having to unlock the lock before I can lock it.

To be honest, I'm disappointed, as I thought that this was going to a be a great piece of kit. I bought it because I recently had a bike stolen while it was secured with a coil type lock.

      Happy Cycling!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fits in back pocket of jeans and khakis
Reviewed in the United States on 17 November 2012

I've had this lock for one year. I ride my bike nearly every day, on average 50 miles per week. I always ride with the lock in my back pocket. It fits in all of my pants' back pockets, whether jeans, khakis or suit pants. The lock weighs 2 pounds (versus the 5 pound Forgetaboutit lock), and I literally don't even notice it's there as I'm riding.

Prior to purchasing the lock I had a convo with a bike shop worker about how crappy the plastic mounting brackets are for pretty much all U-Locks. By chance, in rolled a customer with the Evo Mini mounted to his frame. I watched him struggle to detach and then reattach the U-Lock from the bracket. It didn't slide in smoothly at all. Then I read reviews saying the brackets can snap upon riding over a pothole, etc. I also read reviews saying the Evo mini conveniently fits in a back pocket. I ordered the lock from Amazon, and threw out the bracket as soon as I opened the package.

It takes one second to grab the lock from my pocket, which is super convenient.

This lock is great if you have multiple bikes which you take turns riding. Because it fits in your back pocket you won't need multiple brackets for multiple bikes. I keep the lock sitting inside my helmet when I'm at home. This way I never forget to bring the lock with me.

This is also a great lock choice if you frequently carry your bike up stairs. It is very lightweight. If you get a heavier lock that is mounted to the frame or rack you'll have to carry noticeable extra weight up the steps.

One thing to note in terms of securing your wheels and seat. This lock is generally not big enough to go through the frame and wheel. Some carry a cable to secure the wheels, but I find this annoying. Plus you've still got the seat to worry about. To solve this problem I purchased the Onguard Bicycle Wheel & Seat Skewer Set which replaces the quick releases for the wheels and the seat. This allows me to only lock the frame of the bike. I haven't had any theft issues in over a year.

Works great. It only locks in one direction but that's manageable. I've had two different On Guards and they've both stopped working (luckily off a bike). One lasted a couple years and I loved it. It was cheap but it just stopped working randomly. The 2nd one was slightly more expensive but didn't last more than a year. This Evo Mini keeps trucking on. Comes with a lot of keys. One has a light on it. I keep that one away from my bicycle things so I can use it in emergencies. It's small but still fits on a pole on the wheel through the back triangle of the frame. Add a cable lock for the front wheel and you're pretty secure. No one has ever tried to cut through it but I wouldn't leave a nice bike on it in public for tooooo long. A few hours at a time and you're golden. But I mean one planned strike and any bike lock in the world would fail so don't give anyone the time to plan. I don't use the bracket so I can't comment on that. If this thing fails I'll come back to the review and let you know but for now SOLID AS A ROCK!
