This book on Metallic Thread Embroidery has the name of one manufacturer on its front page - Kreinik - with a short synopsis about the company.
The well written, well explained and well pictured first 43 pages explain almost all you need to know about how to use metallic thread.
The book contains designs both simple and complicated from a elegant but unassuming framed dragonfly to the Angelic Messenger, the chart for which was my reason for buying the book.
The use of metallic thread is not limited to cross stitch and crewel embroidery. There are examples of the use of couching to add on the surface sparkle to your handicrafts of all sorts.
Another project which caught my eye was the Regency Stocking made of white material edged with gold and its cuff made of mono de luxe canvas, embroidered red with couched gold and two resplendent red tassels. A beautiful gift for someone to hang up at Christmas even if they did not have a mantelpiece.
There is a full colour Kreinik metallic thread colour chart spread over 2 pages. A reference chart telling the reader which colours are available in their different ranges and a guide informing which of their products to use with 7 count, 10 count and 14 count plastic canvas.
Also a list of worldwide suppliers of various handicraft and embroider items.
This book also contains an Index. A lot of handicraft books don't bother giving the reader the opportunity of almost instant retrieval of what they want to know - when they want to find it.
After studying this book I am very pleased that I own it. I could not give it away - if I did I would have to buy another copy.

Excellent book with beautiful illustrations of using many of the products in the Kreinik line and beyond. Good discussion of the materials and their best uses plus lots of clearly explained practical applications. This is a must-have for anyone who wants those precious, glittering spools to be used to their absolute best.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not goldwork 9 July 2016
By Jane in Milwaukee - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is fine as far as it goes but please know that it is NOT a book in metal work such as goldwork or silver work. Look at the "Look Inside" portions: it's largely an advertisement for Kreinik which has a monopoly on the metallic threads we like to incorporate into our stitching, most commonly counted cross stitch, with blending filament. The weight of Kreinik threads increases to cord, braid, ribbon and japan threads but is generally eschewed by goldwork enthusiasts. That said, the book gives a lot of good detail about applying which of its threads to what sort of fabric and projects. Almost all the projects in the book are charted for cross stitch or needlepoint; only a couple projects differ--the ribbon work and crewel project on the front cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meet the Metallic Thread Primer: Metallic Thread Embroidery 14 Mar. 2002
By Laura Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is a must-have tool for needleworkers who use metallic threads, are thinking about using metallic threads, or who hope to use these fibers in their work. It provides a concise history of metallic threads and explains the variety which exist. Colorful photographs, tables, and illustrations are plentiful and helpful. "Metallic Threads," provides not only a history of this medium, but practical advice for present day use, and it goes one step further and offers a wide range of projects using metallic fibers to put your newly acquired knowlege to use. In short, it is a vital reference text for those involved in the needlework industry as a professional or hobbyist, but it is equally an inspirational text which provides fun and practical ways to get acquainted, "up close and personal," with this medium. A job well done by Ms. Kreinik et al! I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Guide to using Kreinik Metal Threads 1 Jun. 2001
By Megan R McConnell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a fantastic book. It not only has some lovely projects for you to do using metal threads, but it also is jam-packed with information on how to use the threads, and lots of details about the different products available from Kreinik.
As the Embroidery Host at BellaOnline, I get a lot of queries about metal thread embroidery, and have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this book as the best to have when starting to stitch metal thread work.
This book is definately worth the money, and will inspire you to add the sparkle of metal to your embroidery projects.
