An amazing concert by Kreator at there best but if you want blu ray 1080p then look at dying alive but for those who can see past that and it's not bad by the way think life after death by maiden you are in for a treat. The 5,1 mix is good and over all i'm well happy with it and if your an old skool thrash fan you will be to.

First of all the good. As mentioned by other reviewers the sound (courtesy of Sabbat guitarist Andy Sneap) on the DVD, and extra audio CD, of the gig is outstanding. Guitars are clear and crunchy and the Kreator sound is well captured. This truly special concert has been crying out for a re-release for a least a decade and the re-mastering that has been done on the more than 20 year old master tapes makes them sound fresh and new. The DVD extras are good for primarily a concert video. But it's a little disappointing that none of the band appear in the documentary.

The bad? The concert video itself. To explain... the concert was originally released on VHS and was in my opinion one of the best concert videos ever. It focussed almost totally on the band's performance. Solos were captured in glorious close-up, cuts were made at logical times and effects kept to a minimum. In this release the entire show has been re-edited from the raw source material. The result is it has become more about the video editors than the band. First, cutting is nauseatingly fast at all times (no shot longer than 5 seconds whether during a song or not) and often many times a second. Second, constant video effects (bright full screen flashes, simulated camera judder and black and white grainy-o-vision) are plastered all over the footage. Thirdly (and most bizarrely) the original 4:3 video has been letterboxed to 16:9 but without anamorphic presentation. Finally, the effects and cutting pay scant attention to the music itself. For example during Mille's solo in the first track, you are treated to shots of everything else but him! The overall result is the concert looks more like it was filmed by someone using a mobile phone with a faulty flash while they were being thrown around in the mosh pit!

Feel I have to write a review for this as Amazon`s blurb doesn`t give you the full details...

This is a re-release of 2 of Kreator`s old videos. One is the Live in East Berlin concert, which is an absolute classic and catches Kreator at their prime, touring the Coma of Souls album ( it`s fair to say that Kreator`s classic albums were up to and including this one ). It`s been remastered and remixed in 5.1 sound by none other than Andy Sneap and should sound great ( although that`s being presumptuous... ). There`s also the Hallucinative Comas video on it which is a short horror film Kreator made around the Coma album...here in a director`s cut version with previously un-seen scenes.

Great to have all this on DVD at last and as any discerning thrasher will tell you Kreator were one of the Gods of thrash back in the day ( and still are!! ).
