From the Author
All over the world people seek to learn how to defend themselves. They seek help. People are still born with a brain, two legs and two hands. The only think that changed over time is the collective intelligence in form of faster access around the world. Self Defense is having series of skills to timely identify, react, and resolve an instant scenario that could cost your life. The time frame in a real life scenario could be few seconds. This calls for efficiency in the use of time, generally two seconds, and therefore efficiency in the use of movement. Krav Maga was a complete Training method for a self defense engagement. It is logical to conclude that there is only one best way to the course of action in a self defense scenario. In scenarios where we never get a second chance we would not want to rely on the second best choice.
Various interests caused various interpretations of Krav Maga
I've decided to leave my contribution to humanity with this book. I've spent about 2,000 hours writing this book with the following goals in mind: Give anyone that can read the opportunity to take control over their learning or teaching and understand in depth what they are learning. Giving potential students and potential instructors the ability to identify if they are learning Krav Maga or whether they are just using the name Krav Maga and not learning or teaching its techniques and training methods. I've included a comparative analysis of Krav Maga Techniques and Training Systems to many other self Defense Training Systems that were developed over the last decades. I drew conclusions to why other methods would not be likely to work. I've included a complete in depth research of the human body major pressure points. Complete analysis of human body reaction time, and complete analysis of the outcome of tactical decisions in each scenario. While training methods attempt to limit injuries of the trainees, yet it was discovered in the Israeli Defense Forces that after twenty one hours of training, new trainees were far more advanced than trainees that had obtained an instructor degree in various sports martial arts. A non athletic trainee would knock Out a Karate, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing and Sambo champions or a jujitsu or Aikido Nin-Jitsu instructor.
Since it only takes 21 hours to master all Krav Maga skills and techniques, I thought it would be best to put it all in one book. For anyone that has a limited interest in part of it, for example how to win a Sports Martial Arts Competition, how to execute a knockout punch, Self Defense for Women, etc., I think they should read the whole book and decide if they want to practice part of it or all of it. In the Israeli Defense forces an additional eighty hours are spent to teach Instructors how to teach. This ensures quality control of the product.

It's great to read the simply presented principles and methods without having to go through the whole I-learnt-this-in-the-special-forces-and-while-on-mission-with-Jason-Bourne blurb that other authors & instructors with less clear CVs sometimes offer.
I don't have access to a KM federation which has top flight credentials, though I believe that the instruction is nevertheless good...this book (and soon, the DVD set Pure 'Krav Maga - Self Defense Mastery'...if I can figure a way to get it delivered from Europe or digitally) allow me to make sure I'm on track with the underlying principles and techniques.
If you want good instruction get this book...if you want pretty pictures and hairy chests then look elsewhere.
training sytem ! The book is a very interesting guide but
looses points because of the VERY bad quality of the pictures !
However, as a former practitioner, I have to say that, apart
from the sometimes faulty translations, most of the contents
make sense and give practical options for a realistic
self-defense training !
To finish if you want a concise , informative detailed companion on Krav Maga, then buy this.
If you're considering buying this book in order to self learn Krav Maga, then I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Some of the techniques here will get you hurt, and especially when it comes to knife work. Just go to a class instead, it's the only way to learn properly.
Well thought out, simple effective techniques detailed with clear instructions. In a review of another Krav Maga book I cautioned that you can't learn martial arts from a book. I still stand by that, but this book is the closest thing to having an instructor with you.I still say you would be advised to have at least a few lessons from a qualified Krav Maga instructor, but you can be confident that after reading this book, and a little bit of practise, you will be better equipped in a self defence situation.
Krav Maga is designed to be learned quickly, as it utilises your body's natural reactions. Boaz Aviram had 23 hours to teach recruits Krav Maga, this manual is the result of all his years of experience.I cannot reccommend it highly enough, well worth every penny paid.
The chapter on the philosophy of Krav Maga - the biomechanics and instinctive simplicity of the moves - is the most in-depth, clear and easily understood I've ever read.
Mr. Aviram didn't have the benefits of a large publishing house behind him so some of the proof-reading has missed grammatical errors, and the photos are sometimes on a different page to the text, but that doesn't detract from the value of the book to anyone interested in the REAL, TRUE, PURE version of Krav Maga.
This is genuinely the only book on Krav Maga that anyone needs to own, and if used together with Mr. Aviram's DVDs "Pure Krav Maga - Self Defence Mastery" gives anyone involved or interested in Krav Maga an essential toolkit to either begin learning or to improve their skills. For the cost of a couple of lessons at the local gym, this is extremely good value for money too.
Buy the book, get the DVDs, work with a friend through the exercises and techniques. Learn REAL Krav Maga. Excellent stuff.
