Each of the 50 proverbs is given 2 pages, the first page shows the Kanji, English meaning, hiragana pronunciation, literal meaning and the “Similar to” meaning. The second page has an example sentence, underneath both there is a glossary with the Kanji, roumaji/romaji (?), e.g. “空港で kuukou de – at the airport”, and English meanings. I’m not always sure about the “Similar to” listing, but then I don’t know many proverbs, they may be more familiar to American readers.
The introduction states, “Japanese tend to use kotowaza often-more often than most English speakers. It would therefore be beneficial for you to pepper your vocabulary with these pithy pieces of wisdom.” I just like the book.
