The pocket-sized CA-40 features a refined design with a stand on the back that lets you place the tuner on any surface.

Sound Out function
The Sound Out function plays a reference tone through the internal speaker, letting you tune by ear.
You can adjust the reference tone in semitone steps over a range of C4 through C5 (one octave) to accommodate a variety of instruments.

Adjustable Calibration
The Calibration function lets you adjust the pitch in 1 Hz steps over a range of 410~480 Hz in order to accommodate a variety of concert pitches, with a memory backup function that preserves the Calibration setting and Sound Out settings even when you turn off the power.

Auto Power Off function
This automatically turns the power off after the unit has been left on for twenty minutes, preventing the batteries from running down needlessly.

Long battery life
The Korg CA-40 is designed for long battery life, and allows approximately 85 hours of continuous use.

* Alternatively, you can use the separately sold Korg CM-200 contact microphone to send the vibration of the instrument directly to the tuner, so that you can tune accurately without worrying about other sounds in the environment.

I bought this as an aid to piano tuning, and am suitably impressed. I've been tuning by ear for a number of years, and the result is always good in the end. However, by ear it normally takes me about 2 hours: using the meter speeded up tuning significantly. The meter operates in the bearing scale area which forms the foundation to tuning the whole instrument. But it also responds to an octave above and below that. You can use it in "singing" mode just like a tuning fork, and tune out beats, or you can use it in meter mode where an LCD needle indicates when the frequency is correct. The only thing to note when doing the latter is that the meter is very sensitive to interfering noise - .e.g. planes overhead, kitchen noises. It's also useful if you want to tune to 442 instead of the more standard 440: you can easily set it to cover the new frequency. The meter doesn't replace the need for a good ear, nor for good tuning technique, but if you have those already it does help you spot bad notes more quickly (in my case!).

This is an excellent chromatic tuner. I use it for my 3 harps and its range is really good with only the top G and A not always being picked up. The green light indicator which shows when the strings are precisely in tune is most helpful with sharp or flat deviations being indicated by red lights to the appropriate sides and the magnitude by the deflection of the meter needle. Good value for an accurate instrument which performs up to expectation.

Light weight and no trailing wires. Works very well including with higher notes which other tuners seem to have struggled with. Bought for tuning harp. Pleased with purchase. Would recommend it over other models and brands, it's the third one I've tried.

I bought this tuner to use with an acoustic guitar and found it very straightforward right out of the box. The front of the fascia includes an on/off button, a small microphone and a swinging needle. When you play a note into the microphone the tuner displays the pitch of the note in Hz to the left and also the name of the note to the right; the named note is the one nearest in pitch to the note you played. If the note is off pitch the needle will veer to right or left of its centre position and a red light will display. When the note is adjusted to pitch, the needle will be aligned on its centre zero position and a green light will display. Using the needle alignment to tune an instrument is very easy and I had my guitar tuned in less than a minute. Since then I have been using the tuner regularly and it's become indispensible. You need to prop up the tuner when using it and there is a little flip out lever at the back which acts as a stand - it's fine for this purpose. I have not used the tuner long enough to assess its battery life - this is claimed in the instruction leaflet to be approx 85 hours. All in all this is the best tuner I have found and I prefer it to onboard or clip on tuners. The tuner is powered by 2 AAA (3V) batteries which are easily obtainable. Great value for money.
