This album is very powerful and much better than his last. Possibly even his best album. The tribal addition works really well and the ecoustic track is a return to his original style. If you have any other Xavier Rudd albums you must buy this.

It is a real pleasure to listen to this album. Xavier Rudd has dug deep and accessed even deeper into his musical psyche. The amalgamation of Izintaba, the South African duo and Tio Moloantoa, his new bassist give a fresh multi-layered, more rooted feel to his music. The music resonates with a deep sense of soul-searching and self-understanding from Rudd. This album is more reminiscent of 'Food in the Belly' and 'Solace' with the first half of 'White Moth' thrown in for good measure. His previous album: 'Dark Shades of Blue' seems to have been as edgy and rough as Rudd is prepared to go and, in my opinion, that's not a bad thing. Listening to the mournful, but beautifully haunting 'Love Comes and Goes' shows the quality we expect from Xavier -just him and a guitar. Then, 'Sky to Ground' shows clearly the new African influence with the beautiful African bass-tones overcut by the sharp clarity of Rudd. It warms the heart to hear. For me personally, being a didge player, not enough of the instrument for me in the album. Xavier plays the didgeridoo so well it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity. All in all though, a fantastic musical experience which will enrich anyone who hears it. Well worth 5 stars. Thanks Xavier, keep it up!

This is an album of beautiful, joyful songs. Xavier Rudd's always had a great 'bounce' to his songs and it's still there, keeping you moving and smiling. One listen is just not enough.

All I can say is buy it and let summer flow through you.

Koonyum Sun is in one way quite a departure from the previous Xavier albums as for the first time he has a band 'Izintaba' two South African musicians and their influence on Xaviers song writing and sound is clear. What hasn't changed is the amazing quality of musicianship, the uplifting nature of the songs and the strong moral purpose that flows through his lyrics. There is even a guest appearance by his nine year old son on one track and normally I'd cringe at this but it works. My eldest son brought the first two Xavier albums home with him from Australia after he 'd spent a year there and since then I've been a fan. If you ever get a chance see him live, it's an amazing experience with different arrangements to the songs that often meld into each other. A great album with a slightly more commercially accessible sound.

Definitely five stars for this beautiful album of wisdom, dance and soul felt songs.
I enjoyed listening to all the tracks, which is rare, as some tunes, one favours more or less.
Healing, sing-along, and great jumping around the room fun.
