The Kodak EasyShare C813 is a feature-packed, easy to use compact camera incorporating many of Kodak's key technologies to ensure your images are practically perfect every time. The Kodak AF 3x Optical Aspheric Zoom Lens (35 mm equivalent: 36-108 mm) allows you to get closer to the action without losing quality in the process, while the digital image stabilisation reduces the blur and shake commonly associated with close ups. Better images are nothing without bigger prints and, thanks to the 8MP lens, you can now print out your favourite pictures at any size up to 30x40 inch. If you want to view your images in digital format, you can check them out on the 2.4 inch colour display or out put them in high definition to an HD TV or laptop.

The V.G.A. video was something I liked. Most digital cameras with a 11 / 12 megapixel stills facility or less which also have video capture have V.G.A. resolution video. You're highly, highly unlikely to find any 8 or 9 m.p. stills camera with any better video capture than V.G.A.
V.G.A. video quality is probably surprisingly disappointing to people who have not experienced low priced camcorder footage and dig. stills camera video capture. (Though people may be used to the abysmal quality of mobile phone videos, even with 3.2 megapixels, and by comparison, V.G.A. is for beings with eyes.)
But the C813 video, while not truly great, has a good amount to be pleased with, and to me is more rewarding than most cameras near this price bracket. The lighting is attractive for video capture at this price. And video is certainly not a real waste of time as with some budget camcorders which are so hard to keep steady its pointless, or your videos are likely to make you and other viewers very dizzy every time. This has reasonably steady video capture, without having to lift weights for 5 months in advance and spend weeks in surfing lessons.
Though I'm no great fan of V.G.A. video, I really liked taking video with these, aware that the quality is not good enough for T.V. size screen playback.
I want to write that I disagree heartily with other reviewers' comments about good battery life in the C813. I didn't find that at all. I have often read reviews of cameras which take AA / AAA batteries and saw that people have written that the battery life is surprisingly short. I thought the Easyshare C813 camera was no exception to these. I was disappointed by the battery life.
The only batteries which gave a reasonable life span were Duracell Plus and they were hardly good. Budget batteries I tried would not even work at all from brand new attempted use, though they powered things like MP3 players for days. The fault was not specific batteries as one gets enough batteries in these budget packs to try a lot of them.
But that's really, really typical for cameras of all brands like this one. Since I tried the C813, I have got a budget High Def. camcorder / stills camera with a lesser stills photo resolution but which interpolates to 8 megapixels stills shots. It has a permanent rechargeable battery of its own. Though the battery life is a half time longer or better than the best available Energiser disposables of the C813 I'd still prefer a camera taking AA / AAA batteries so not be reliant on a power socket when outside, to be able to use spares. A good lot of rechargeable batteries are a good idea and 2 rechargeable units of a reasonable capacity.
There is a lot to be pleased with the C813. It is good value also. I recommend this camera. The stills should be rewarding photos. I would not buy it especially to take video capture, as I think with any V.G.A. video machine, but if wanting to take reasonable video for the price, this camera is a very good idea.
The menus are clear, the screen is bright and it has a reasonable 3x zoom. Red eye reduction on the flash works very well, and even videos are OK, with sound. Bought for a 9 year old, who loves it, but it need not necessarily be a child's camera.
The Kodak Easyshare C813 is a little gem of a camera, retailing at a modest £50 from most retailers. The low cost, ease of use and high quality of pictures make it an ideal first camera for those new to the world of digital photography.
The camera is nice and compact and can be easily carried in a bag or pocket. It weighs just 141g and measures 4 x 9 x 7 cm. It is really easy to get started with the camera. It takes two AA batteries. I usually use rechargeable batteries, as digital cameras are quite high drain devices, although the batteries seem to last longer in this camera than my previous ones. Usually, if I am taking the camera on holiday, I pop two spare batteries and a charger in my bag too, as a precaution.
The camera has a limited 16 MB memory capacity for storing pictures. It has an expansion slot for an SD memory card. I find that a 2GB SD card suits my requirements well, and enables me to store many photos and the odd video.
When you turn the camera on, you can access various modes via a switch at the top of the camera which you turn. These modes enable you to choose whether to shoot a video or take a picture. The camera is 8.2 megapixel, so you get a very good quality picture. The camera enables you to take pictures in a variety of conditions, such as night, snow, sunset, or landscape, to name but a few.
The camera comes with a flash, which you can set as automatic or control manualy. The camera has a 3x optical zoom, which enables you to get the best out of your pictures. You can opt to take pictures in colour, sepia or black and white, and can edit existing pictures in camera.
Pictures are easily transferred to computer via USB cable. The camera comes with an Easyshare CD which allows you to edit pictures and share them online. Kodak have a dedicated website which links in with the technology and gives you various printing options and ways to use your photos creatively thanks to the services of their online shop.
You can also protect your favourite pictures in the camera, which prevents them from being accidentaly deleted, and create slide shows in camera, as well as creating a limited number of effects.
I am really pleased with the camera, which has proved a reliable friend, always at hand to capture special moments. Yes, it is simple, but it takes really great pictures, and these can be used in a variety of ways, to create innovative personalised gifts, or simply as a wallpaper background for your desktop. The Kodak Easyshare is a perfect little camera and it makes it easy to forget the old days of loading film and taking it to be processed.
