Kodak Cameras: The First Hundred Years
Top customer reviews
About the book itself. It comprises massive amounts of illustrations of box cameras, followed by simple folding cameras. The highest quality cameras with the Kodak logo were the lovely Retina series but these were the designs and product of the Germans, and only wore the Kodak logo for marketing reasons.
I looked in vain for data on the Kodak stereo camera which gets a scanty mention only, and the Kodak Specialist is not even mentioed
Presentation is muddled and there is no real index. The book is excellent as far as it goes but reveals the Kodak organisation as primarily a clever marketing outfit, purchasing other people's brainchild.
Kodak's merit seems to have been genius in bringing photography to the masses with simplified cameras and exposure techniques. They deserved what they got when they got their come uppance in my opinion.
This book is interesting for anyone who wants to understand the history of photography. For a collector, it's a must-have.
