I can't tell you how much this book surprised me. From the outset I had assumed the way the story would go once introduced to the step mother to be but the story did not pan out that way at all. Olivia was a great character, an awkward 17 year old, finding it difficult to fit in anywhere and trying to maintain the relationship with her father.
The story itself was a page turner, within the first couple of chapters I was gripped. The wedding and the drama with Emmy's family was compulsive reading. I loved the way that Olivia was trying her best to remain positive about the whole marriage situation even though her own relationships were impacted.
The only thing I disliked about the book was that it ended. I hope there is a follow up, I'd love to know what happened to Olivia next.

Confronted by her father's bubbly, beautiful, and YOUNG finance, Olivia is forced to examine her relationship to both Emmy and her father. In the process, she'll have to contend with Emmy's refined family, who may not be what they seem, especially Emmy's prickly, brooding brother Ian who, despite his evil machinations, still commands Olivia's attention.
With a perfect blend of self-deprecating humor and introspection, the author creates a likable, relatable protagonist whose depth is perceived more readily by those who care for her than by Olivia herself.
Along with the well-drawn characters, a touch of mystery will keep you turning pages until you reach the satisfying conclusion sure to leave you with a smile on your heart.

Knotted is the debut chick-lit novel by the very talented Quenby Olson. It is a Pride and Prejudice-esq story about Olivia, a 17 year old girl who hears from her estranged father and on a whim decides she wants to go visit him. She packs her belongings and makes the trip to England just mere weeks before her father up coming nuptials- think Amanda Bynes in What a Girl Wants. Upon arriving in England she realizes that her father's soon to be wife, Emmy, is only a few years older than herself. This is a major shock to Olivia. Ian, Emmy's jerk of an older brother, also comes as quite the shock to Olivia, but as stories and lies come out about her father, will Olivia be able to team up with someone like Ian to give her father a chance at happiness?
Quenby Olson does a great job at writing this light, easy read. Her characters are well developed and likable, yes, even Ian has his redeeming qualities. It is one of those books that is hard to put down. Olivia seems wise beyond her years, yet still manages to keep some of her teenage innocence.
I love how this book made me want to keep reading well past my bedtime. It was so hard to put down. The farther I got into the story the faster I read. There were twists in the story that I did not see coming but welcomed with open arms. Quenby does a great job delivering laugh out loud lines, getting her audience to connect with her characters and the plot. She has a very promising career a head of her. And with that career I hope comes more Olivia!
The book is fantastic, even for chick lit. I chewed through it in just a few hours... I found that I couldn't set it down. The writing kept me turning page after page, and Olivia was a compelling character, with just the right amount of spunk mixed with the insecurity of being a teenager. She reminded me of myself, complete with freezing up at important moments or not knowing what to say.
The storyline is so-so, nothing exceptional, but I appreciated that the focus was on Olivia's personal development throughout the story, and that her entire life didn't revolve around some jerk she just met. The bulk of the story is focused around her relationship with her father and his fiancee, not the "jerk" love interest... that subplot is just icing on the cake, really.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes the genre, and even to those brave souls who don't usually read chick lit.
Knotted is one of those books that you only dislike because of the fact that you can't put it down and get the eight hours of sleep you were hoping for until you finish this chapter...and one more after that.
I'll definitely be getting this one autographed by the talented author and recommending it to others.
The characters and story line are not typical and yet extremely relatable. Without giving too much away, because I hate spoilers, I found the story of this young woman, visiting her father and his new fiancé extremely refreshing.
Anyone looking for an extremely well written YA novel set abroad, will enjoy this lovely story.
