Book Description

"Knife Throwing is the most authoritative guide on every aspect of the sport. From knives and knife throwing techniques to competition and advice, as well as profiles of pioneers and legends in the field, this book covers it all."—bobby branton, President of American Knife Thrower's Alliance (AKTA)

Not only is knife throwing fun, it is also a great sport, entertainment, recreation and exercise. it can be a wonderful hobby, pastime, or even a profession, and the fundamentals are easy to learn. Anyone who can throw a stick, stone, or baseball can also learn how to throw a knife with skill and accuracy. All you need is a good knife-designed for the purpose, whether made to throw by the handle or blade, a target, and a small portion of the back yard for the throwing range. Few sports can provide so much recreation at so little cost. Knife throwing is a sport in which individual skills can be developed to a very high degree. Expert knife throwing, like great proficiency in any other sport, is developed by natural aptitude and instinct combined with that one magic ingredient: practice!

the book gives you a relative understanding of the sciences behind knife throwing. i found that my own personal style worked way better for me than the one they showed, so that wasn't much help. it did help me as i was getting started... i wasn't really expecting anything amazing, it's worth getting to get you started though.

Disappointingly lacking in technical content, it's dated and limited.
Has some historical relevance

HASH(0x8989175c) out of 5 stars Excellent 27 Jan. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Mr. McEvoy teaches traditional knife throwing in this book as well as outlines tomahawk throwing. If you wish a more in-depth look at tomahawk throwing, I suggest you read Mr. McEvoy's other book on the subject. The author describes in detail the traditional technique as well as ways to figure out the distance at which you can throw the knife and "stick" it. He also has tales of past professionals in the sport and their own particular styles of throwing. He also talks of using throwing knives as huntsmens' tools and building a suitable outdoor target. He also shows you how to select (a) suitable knives (knife). If you wish to get the fundamentals of knife throwing down, this is the book for you.

HASH(0x8b618c84) out of 5 stars Good guide, the rest is up to you.... 26 Nov. 1999
By Agustin Devoto - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Very good, short, easy to read book. Mc Evoy shows you the techniques for throwing a knife accurately. Reading this book will point you in the right direction. Afterwards practice, and lots of it is what is going to make you good at it. The only reason i deducted one star is because since the book was written in 1973 I believe, some of the info on Knife throwing affiliations, etc.. is outdated. Nonetheless, good, concise, and informative book.

Not only does this book explain the snap , you must have to actually stick a knife and show all the fundamentals and learning secrets, but it also goes in depth for the intermediate thrower on trick throws and more advanced techniques and illustrates professionals and what they use and what they inspire. A great book for any stage of the fascinating art of knife throwing!

HASH(0x89670018) out of 5 stars Lets start throwing knives 29 Jun. 2014
By Ryan899uv7 - Published on Amazon.com

So I bought the book in an attempt to recapture those boring summer afternoons. I also got a set of throwing knives, 8 inch long, here on amazon. I admit that this book isn't going to throw the knives for you. I had some time where no knives would stick. I continued to read the first 3 chapters over and over again and it seemed as though I had a better chance hitting the lotto than finally sticking the knife.

But the book gives you the very basic and technical devices to which you add your own personal touches. Eventually, after figuring out the physics behind the spin, the knives started to stick to my target, and now I can thrown pretty darn well.

The book even goes one step further, giving you advice for long distance throwing, making targets, and axe-throwing.

All in all, the book has all the information in one place, is complemented with great pictures, and can give you the know how to throw a knife. All you need to provide is a few afternoons and some patience!
