Well written, from the heart, outwardly about the experience of tramping on the tracks across the two islands, but containing a rich mix of colorful characters and their interactions, with fascinating historical, geographical and ecological references.
Read on an ebook with a map beside me so that I could follow in detail, I was going South to North as well so could read in parallel with my trip.
Anyone with an interest in New Zealand or travel in general should read this book, like me you will then want to explore further.
That said it does give a nice feel and some good descriptions of what to expect on a vist to the Islands.
