I have had ricers before and found them to be big and ungainly with the actual presser flaps about and has to be manually directed into the container where food is placed.This ricer does not go awry so there is less mess as the the presser fits naturally. Really great product

    I bought this when I saw a contestant on Masterchef using one, thought it must be expensive but was pleasantly surprised. I had a metal ricer one previously but it was so hard to use. This is really easy to use, does not require much effort to pull the handle down. Does a perfect job and very sleek modern gadget. Would recommend.

    I had intended to buy a stainless steel ricer, just to see if it really produced better mashed potato than a good hand masher. However, on reading the Amazon reviews I was encouraged to buy this Kitchen Craft ricer, which though made of a very durable toughened plastic compound (which initially made me hesitate a moment) has proved to be very reliable and very strong. It has a stainless steel hinge, and comes with two stainless steel discs or mesh plates, each with differently sized holes. I've mashed carrots and parsnips as well as potatoes; the carrots seemed to mash best when passed through the larger holes first, then the smaller; but potatoes and parsnips came out perfectly creamy through the smaller-holed disc alone.

    Btw, I wouldn't say the resulting mash is actually better than a really well-prepared hand mash; it's just as good, though, and so much quicker (and less noisy!).

    The ricer came in a box, but with no instructions. I only mention this because the info on the box also said the ricer can be used to make röstis, and initially I wasn't sure if this meant you could push a raw potato through the larger mesh plate rather than grating it. But a quick online search revealed that some other ricers advertise their use to compress raw grated potato to get rid of the excess water, and this ricer has proved very successful at doing just that, providing very tender röstis.

    Cleaning is effortless, whether under a hot tap or in a dishwasher. At such a reasonable price this is very highly recommended.

    I absolutely love my potato ricer, and would highly recommend it to anyone (in fact, I already recommended it to a friend)..!
    I had bought a metallic one from a local Argos, but had to return it after the first go, due to faulty craftsmanship. That metallic ricer was making a bit of a scraping noise that was setting my nerves on edge - a problem this plastic ricer does NOT have!

    This ricer is quite sturdy. It is also quite large in size, so it takes up a bit of storage space, but it's a worthy addition to my kitchen.

    As with other ricers I have seen, you can only "load" a couple of chunks of boiled potato at a time.
    I have said it's sturdy, but I get the feeling that if you overload it, or if you used potatoes that are not fully boiled, you might break it, or at least damage it - but, then again, anything you misuse is going to get damaged, no?

    Yes, it takes a bit longer that just using a hand masher, but the results (for me), are way nicer.. And it's not a long, tortuous process, either..
    And, yes, you need some strength in your hands to grip the ricer, but I can still manage it (I may be a bit out of shape, but not feeble).

    Very pleased with it; just wish I could get one for my mother, who lives overseas, but can't fit anything else into the luggage to take it..

    I have taken a star off because:
    1: it does not have a good seal, so when you press down, potato escapes around the sides.
    2: the hinged mechanism is made in such a way that it will s really fiddly to clean.
    3: there were no instructions in the box.

    I wish I could remember the brand of potato ricer I had ( lost in the move), as it looked like this one, without the hinged mechanism, and was excellent, this one and s ok, but fiddly.
    It comes with two plates that just drop in, and then you have to force them back up the basket from the outside with your fingers, no instructions, took us a moment to figure this out, as my last one screwed in, this one just sits there but needs a good push to come out, which makes me wonder how long it will last.
    We used the smaller hole sized of the two plates that come with this ricer, and the potato that come out was the dimensions we expected, so that was good.
    I assume, but don't know, that the larger sized holes plate is for more fibrous vegetables like swede or carrots?
    Again, I don't know as there were no instructions.
