The full metal construction means the mixer is robust, durable and stable. The smooth rounded design is easy to clean and does not scratch or chip easily. The planetary action allows for thorough and fast mixing whilst the single attachment hub turns the mixer into a food processor with all the attachments. The solid stainless steel is ideal for small or large quantities with its ergonomic handle for better grip and easy handling

The first thing you notice is the stunning retro looks and the shiny casing. The hardest decision to make is which colour to buy, thats a very personal thing as these mixers will probably last a lifetime. When you pick the Kitchenaid up you will be surprised at the sheer weight of the appliance, and the quality of the workmanship. Even the tools and bowl are as solid as can be.
The smooth speed switch is so simple to use and as the direct drive motor is at the top of the machine, it only uses part of the power needed by other machines which have their motor low down on the stand.
The only down side is that you are unable to use this up against a wall as you have the speed selector on one side and the release tilting catch on the other side, but this isnt an issue for me even though my kitchen is very small.
I agree with some other comments about the price of these machines in the UK being very high compared to America, where they are about a third of the price. Even so I am very pleased with mine and recommend this machine over the current Kenwood Chef anyday.
I was hesitant to click the button to pay, as it was so expensive. Having used the mixer myself, I believe it was worth every penny. The design of the mixer itself is so simple, but very effective. The Boysenberry colour looks slightly darker in the picture than it does in reality, but it is still a candy pop bright and looks amazing.
The mixer is very heavy, and its very sturdy, the mixer can be on the fastest setting, and it doesn't budge.
Out of the three mixing attachments, I have only used the whisk and the white mixer (not used the dough hook)- both attachments work well, the design of the bowl enables the attachements to mix the contents of the bowl totally - I rarely have to give a final mix by hand after using the mixer.
There are only two controls on the mixer, a speed setting and a switch to allow the mixer to tilt open - which is great as it's easy to understand.
The only slight confusion we encountered was trying to remove the mixer attachement from the mixer. You have to push the attachment in, and rotate it to the left. It takes a few struggles, but once you get the hang of it - it's a breeze!
Our next saving is for the glass bowl which can be used with the mixer!
Overall - a fantastic product well worth buying.
Firstly, super quick delivery from Amazon (within 24 hours of ordering from one end of the country to the other in the UK wow!)
and also the build quality is solid and as expected beyond what we thought - superb.
Everything was as described and the artisan really performs well so far but not had it long of course.
Sure it's a little expensive but you only get what you pay for in this world and this a great stand mixer and very simple to use,
keep clean etc. plus the added bonus being the pleasing lines, curves and design of the Artisan are simply the best - we love it!
I thought I would need to get all sorts of attachments but so far the three basic attachments that came with it (a whisk, pastry hook, and batter blade) have been enough to achieve everything I have wanted to do. The ease of making butter cream icing or meringue has inspired me to ambitious new creations.
The powerful motor, the easy to clean body, and the trivial simplicity of changing the attachments has spoiled me for any other mixer. I will buy more attachments - but only because I hope to use this lovely mixer to do everything.
It's the must-have for any serious cook.
For baking it is a dream. For chopping vegetables, shredding crunchy stuff, grating cheese, it is a pure pleasure.
However, I just ground my first 600grams of beef and it was a disaster. The parts don't fit well together-- even if it looks like they do, and the blade makes ever so slight contact with the metal cover. Because the contact is ever so slight it makes no sound, but it results in a large amount of metal shavings coming out of the middle of the metal face where the ground meat comes out. Then I completely washed everything a second time to watch the detail, and again the shavings accumulated in the centre of the spinning blade. The amount of metal shavings seems high for the ever so delicate scratches visible on the inside face of the metal cover. The metal shavings combine with the fat in the meat to give the appearance of a dark oil oozing out of the grinder.
If your meat is room temperature the membrane layers will gum up the grinding process. Basically the meat will stop coming out and the exit chutes will be blocked by the equivalent of a membrane parachute covering the rotating knife. Chilling the meat as cold as possible but still with some flexibility allows the rotating knives to tear fatty membranes better and avoids clogging the mechanism up.
The metal shavings really put me off. If I want unknown gunk in my food I can go to a restaurant!
At least I can still use the machine for baking and fruit/veg/cheese, but for the price of the kit, this meat grinder should have worked!
