KitchenCraft Nylon Mesh Strainer (18 cm)
Embrace the lump-free lifestyle with this hygienic, non-reactive strainer
There are some items that no kitchen should ever be without, and a sieve is one of those things.
If you’re sieving naturally acidic ingredients, like fruit and berries, this plastic sieve is the tool for the job because it’s non-reactive. This means it won't react with acids and discolour the fruit. It won’t transfer tastes and smells either, so you can use it for different jobs, safe in the knowledge that your rice won’t come out tasting like last seasons’ blackberries.
The nylon mesh is also nice and flexible, so it’s really easy to clean when you’re handling pesky ingredients that get caught in the gaps. What’s more, it’s heat resistant to 220°C (428°F), so you can use it while you’re preparing both hot and cold food.
- Diameter: 18 cm (7 inches)
- Length: 35 cm (14 inches)
- Heat resistant to 220°C (428°F)
- Dishwasher safe
Nylon mesh is a great choice when you’re sieving. It’s easy to clean, it won’t retain odours and flavours and it won’t react with acids or discolour your ingredients.
Twin resting arms
Support your strainer and your scrummy ingredients at the same time by balancing the twin resting arms on the side of the bowl or pan that you’re using. That way you can also keep both hands free to handle whatever it is that you’re planning to sieve, strain or drain.
As the sieve is heat resistant to 220°C (428°F), you can use it while you’re right in the middle of cooking. Use it to strain excess liquid from sauces, or to drain the water off vegetables, rice or pasta.
Handy hanging hook
The sieve has a hook on the end of the handle, so you can hang it in an easy to reach point in your kitchen where it’ll be ready for anything.

~ It is made of a non-reactive material and so presents no threat to the health and happiness of kefir grains
~ The nylon mesh is soft and yielding to light pressure which makes it easy to ‘stir’ kefir grains around inside it without crushing them
~ The holes in the mesh are a good size for allowing kefirized milk through whilst capturing even small, newly formed grains
Other non-kefir specific features are –
~ Very easy to clean and dry thanks to having no joins, lips, or areas which capture and retain water or material
~ Loop in the handle allows it to be hung up on a hook for immediate readiness in the kitchen
I’ve also used it for sifting cinnamon and cocoa but definitely wouldn’t use it for anything heavier or bulkier that required vigorous stirring rather than shaking because I doubt the nylon mesh would cope with much pressure.

It's really lightweight too, making it good for weaker wrists - at least half the weight of comparable metal sieves I have.
Really good value for the price, too!

I have since purchased a plastic colander with a handle (brand: Hobby) which has larger holes all over, but the holes are small enough to hold back all the grains, even the small ones. It's perfect for the job, the kefir runs through much quicker. For anyone interested you can buy these colanders on Amazon, but the colour range is limited (only seem to have lime green at the time I am writing this review). I brought mine on another well known online platform in a nice shade of baby blue.
It is 20 cm (approx 8 inches) which is quite large. It would fit over a large saucepan for draining or rinsing.
I have purchased Kitchen Craft items before and they seem to be of a reasonable quality.
Cheap and cheerful - buy a couple and you'll be sorted for a couple of years at least.
