About the Author

When I was young, I wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up. But then I changed my mind because being a famous, yet totally undercover secret agent would be much cooler. I looked into it, but there weren’t many job opportunities. I thought for a while and concluded that maybe I should just marry well. People make whole careers of that. I fell deeply in love with Agent Mulder, but he already had Scully, and I don’t share.

So, instead, I became a writer.

Now I get to be all of those things and so many more.

Ryan is a web designer and in his free time he can be found in the boxing ring. He's a womanizer and not ideal boyfriend material. Grace is an author who hires the firm Ryan is working for to build her website. Even though she knows with her hectic schedule she isn't supposed to date anyone, Grace likes Ryan more than she should straight away. She can't get involved with someone, because her life is too messed up and she's always trying to meet impossible deadlines. Grace is Ryan's first personal client and he shouldn't fall for her, but it happens anyway. Will they stay away from temptation or are their feelings too strong to ignore?

A Kiss in the Dark is a wonderful romantic story. Grace is an author who would love to write a bestseller. She doesn't want it for selfish reasons and I loved that about her. She's sweet and caring and deserves a bit of happiness in her life. Ryan likes women and he's a player. He isn't relationship material, but when he meets Grace he starts thinking about his behavior. He's gorgeous and charming, but he also has a kind heart. Ryan and Grace have great chemistry and I couldn't wait to find out where that would lead to.

I love the title of the story, A Kiss in the Dark promises something sensual. Lisa Fox manages to find a good balance between the heartwarming personalities of Grace and Ryan and their attraction towards one another, something I enjoyed very much. Grace and Ryan are both ambitious, they fight for what they believe in and even though they don't always have it easy they try to make something of themselves and are prepared to work hard for it, I loved that mentality.

A Kiss in the Dark is set in New York and I love Lisa Fox's vivid descriptions of the city.

A Kiss in the Dark opens with Ryan, a professional website programmer for Sharpe Designs who spends a bit of his free time fighting in the ring. He’s got a history of being a ladies man who lives by his self-proclaimed motto of drink hard, play hard, work hard.

Ryan’s bachelor status might be in for a complete change when he meets Grace Betancourt, the sexy and (very) single author that unfortunately also happens to be his first client. In addition to playing hard and working hard, Ryan has a no ditching responsibilities policy, so he’s torn between his professional and personal interests when it comes to all things involving Grace.

Grace Betancourt is a cozy mystery author that just got signed for a 4-book deal. She enters Ryan’s life when she decides to hire Sharpe Designs to create a professional and interactive website to help her sell more books. Not only does Ryan have the ability to create an amazing website for Grace, he also might be just the inspiration she needed to overcome her recent writer’s block. She’s constantly stressed about making her daily word count, and between her writing and responsibilities in her personal life, Grace doesn’t have the time to get involved in a relationship. Are Grace and Ryan doomed before they even have a chance to get started or will Ryan show Grace what she’s been missing and convince her that a relationship is worth the time and effort?

One of the major themes of the story was that meeting the right person can open your heart and your eyes to love. It’s incredibly important to have a strong support system of people that have your back, through the good stuff and the bad.

This was my first Lisa Fox book, although I've had her previous two releases One Kiss and Her Perfect Lips on my kindle for a while now. It's nothing personal why I haven't read them, I've just been so snowed under with review copies that I've not had chance to read many of my own purchases lately. However, after reading A Kiss in the Dark I don't think they'll be languishing in my 'Books to read' folder for much longer!

So, what did I like about this one?

Firstly, I was glad to read a novella. Sometimes life gets a bit hectic, and at times like that shorter reads are my go-to. This past week was busy for me as I was away at my best friend's wedding, plus the summer is always busy at my day job with end of year records to be produced and new children visiting the pre-school, but I get restless if I've not got a book on the go. To be able to pick up a story which gets going straight away and carries on at a fast pace is perfect for me for this time of year. Lisa Fox did this brilliantly, so that's one massive tick to start off with!

I'll admit, I wasn't sure the plot was going to be my sort of thing. Whilst I've read and enjoyed books with an alpha male 'hero', I'm more naturally drawn to the geeks and misfits. From the blurb, Ryan sounded like a bit of a lad. Could I care enough about him to want to find out what happens between him and Grace?

I needn't have worried, because although boxer Ryan has a playboy past, we're shown how Grace softens him. I loved the practical ways he showed her how much he cared- a real reminder that romance can be walking someone home or being there for them when things get tough. It was the everyday gestures rather than the hearts and flowers which made him appeal to me.
