Format: DVD
Ever since Anne Rice's first novel came out, vampires have become creatures of elegance and romance -- all roses, wine goblets, sensuality and twilit marble mansions.

"Kiss of the Damned" seems to be for those who love such stories of "moral" vampires who live lives of beauty and love, which gives this slow-moving character drama a dreamlike quality. Director Xan Cassavetes has created a truly lovely piece of work, misted over with half-light and soft voices, but the denouement definitely leaves something to be desired.

Young screenwriter Paolo (Milo Ventimiglia) meets a beautiful, exotic woman named Djuna (Josephine de La Baume), and instantly falls in love with her. At first, she seems shy of getting too intimate, and soon reveals why -- she's actually a vampire. But when they sleep together, she ends up drinking his blood and turning him into a vampire.

Paolo quickly moves in with Djuna, and the two of them begin a moonlit romance that can last for all of eternity. But then Djuna's sister Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) comes to stay with them for a week -- and her mind games and reckless blood-drinking throw their lives into turmoil. As Djuna introduces Paolo to the local circle of vampires, led by the actress Xenia (Anna Mouglalis), Mimi begins destroying their romance.

In many ways, "Kiss of the Damned" is a rather cliched vampire romance -- a vampire loves a mortal so much that she turns him so they can be together forever. Some lip service is paid to how awful it is to be rich, hot and immortal, but there aren't a lot of real problems. And oh yeah, the admirable vampires abstain from human blood.

But Xan Cassavetes wrings every last drop of sensuality from her movie.

What a nice surprise! You can change this awful cover, it1s a double sided cover, inside it has the image illustrated by Akiko Stehrenberger, way better.

Really enjoyed this film, has a 70's style feel in places very much so in the beginning but then develops very nicely on it's own with some great moments. The story surrounds a female vampire, self loathing and tired of her existence until the chance meeting at a DVD store when Djuna (Josephine de La Baume) casts her gaze on Paolo (Milo Ventimiglia) things get a little wild from then on especially with Djuna's wayward sister Mimi who does her best to make Djuna's life a misery. All told I personally really enjoyed this film very retro and very well done. If you like the vampire genre then also try out WE ARE THE NIGHT, another good vamp flick.

This is an excellent and artistic film. It is not like any other Vampire movie out there. It's very romantic, passionate and intense, and shows a different side to your usual vampire lore. All of the actors involved do an excellent job. A hidden gem, possibly overlooked because it's not one of these giant box office style hits.

Djuna (Joséphine de La Baume) is a vampire. She falls in love with Paolo (Milo Ventimiglia) and turns him. Wayward sister Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) comes to visit. Vampires get together and lament about their life blah, blah, blah.

This was pretty standard stuff. Except for the Apple product placement this could have been an Italian 70's film with the acting, scenery and music.

A fair film for vampire lovers.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity (Roxane Mesquida, Joséphine de La Baume)

Tries to be sexy, tries to be clever, tries to be interesting, big fail.
This is vampire movie for artsy fartsy folks,it looks better on the cover. It is a very slow story of a female vampire seducing a guy, turning him, then the sister wanting her fun and blah blah blah.
Some will lap this up as a vampire movie with a difference,oh it's all very cunningly ostentatious but hardly worth investing time in,just an opinion.
I'm not big on vampire movie anyway, this doesn't convert me.

An erotic vampire horror where the majority of the best work is in the world building. The idea of a vampire community and the reality of their immortality is incredibly vivid and well thought out. Likewise, placing Mimi - the classic example of a vampire as a monster - in this very bourgeoisie social construct shakes the establishment in all the right ways. But it all comes back to the central love story between Djuna and Paolo, its simply too dull for the centre stage.

very boring and very disappointing, one of those films where all the best parts are in the trailer.

I spent more time fast forwarding than I did watching.

hardly any soundtrack, a plot that had potential put fell flat, and the only decent actor in the whole lot couldn't cope, poor thing.
(he did so good in heroes, I hope this doesn't ruin his career.)
