Product Description

Review

"Danny Gregory has created an honest--and literal--portrait of grief, charting the life and death of his wife Patti in watercolors and words.... Gregory's struggles after her death are so true that you can't help relate.... Equally compelling is his progress towards rebuilding his life, the hardest and most mysterious part of a journey like this. How can someone recover? 'The daily Patti has been replaced by the universal Patti, ' he writes. 'I think of all the ways I loved her, at all the different parts of our lives.' " -- Oprah.com

"Personal, original, and vibrant." -- Steven Heller, TheAtlantic.com

"Gregory's thoughtful writing is accompanied by his stunning watercolor paintings, which are so rich and wild they viscerally convey the wide swings of emotion he and his family endured. But the book is not depressing-or at least no more depressing than life is. It's both a celebration of the woman Gregory loved and a clear-eyed look at the work it took to clean up the messes she left behind." - Slate.com

This is Danny Gregory doing what he does best, illustrating his life in words and pictures. This volume is about his beloved wife Patti, and about his mourning of her accidental death. But it's not remotely maudlin. If you can get to page 40 without tears then you're a better woman than me, but while the book is about grieving its also about hope, and about finding life again after such a devastating loss. In the end the book is as much a celebration of Patti's life as it a memoir of the months following her death.
It's beautifully written and wonderfully Illustrated with vibrant sketches in Danny Gregory's inimitable style. I guarantee you won't read a better book about love and loss this year.

This book chronicles the life Danny Gregory pieced together after the tragic loss of his wife in an accident. He takes from his sketch books and has compiled a work of beauty that manages to deal with the depths of emotion through a highly accessible and down to earth medium of his art. It will make you experience a range of feelings - highs and lows - as you watch before your eyes as Danny pieces back together his life and understanding of his situation. One of the most touching aspects of this book is his relationship with his son as they separately and together work to understand their situation.

Not only do you follow Danny through his own story but it makes you reflect on life, on people and on what is important. This book makes you think and feel and despite the sad subject matter it is a truly positive story that makes you understand the wonder of life through Danny's account of his inspirational wife.

A beautiful book - manages to touch very deep subjects in a down to earth manner without being overly sentimental. Through Danny's story telling you feel and learn about love and life; his, but more importantly yours.

A Kiss Before You Go is a heartfelt memoir by Danny Gregory. The pages are from sketchbooks he kept after losing his wife to an accident in 2010. He shares with with us what it is like to lose someone you love.

I read the book with a heavy heart. You can feel his emotions through his handwritten words and the beautiful watercolour sketches. There are his personal thoughts, anxiety and turmoils. It's an intimate look at how his life has changed.

The heaviness also comes from having read his earlier book Everyday Matters that's about life after his wife's subway accident. That was published in 2003.

This is a beautiful and moving memoir. It takes tremendous courage to write about loss, especially when you have to relive it.

I have quite recently discovered Danny Gregory and since, have been lapping up his art, his blog and his books. I love the way he draws and paints and it's all completely recognisable and yet not quite perfect. It has inspired me to draw wobbly lines and not quite perfect things generally and allow them to be ok, when in the past I have not done so because I thought it was 'rubbish'. Also I love his humour, his downtoearthness and the way he makes every day things sacred somehow in his documenting of them. Specifically this book is very moving and there is a journey through his grief after the passing of his wife. I cannot big up Danny Gregory enough :)
