The dimensions were quickly sent (Good customer service!) and are L:30cm, W:12cm, D:2.5cm - These *should* be added to the product description along with Max/Min bar sizes for the clamp.
For reference The EDB-1 is about the same size to the Baggs Para DI, the Orchid DI, and other similar products. It has instrument inputs at the 'bottom' i.e. the front edge and has balanced outputs on the 'top' and also a 1/4in. line out on one the right-hand side. The other side is flat with no I/O.
I asked for measurements of the tray because I wanted to ensure the sides of this tray would either a: Not foul the side output on the pre-amp, or preferably accommodate my L-shaped 1/4 in. Jack plug when plugged into the side of the EDB-1.
In use the Pre-Amp sits comfortable on the tray length-ways with cables in at the front and cables out at the top however I could have still used the side-output with at least an L-shaped lead.
With all of that in mind the product supported my pre-amp very effectively and it was wide enough with shallow enough sides that the cables did not get fouled. There is plenty of space on there for bits and pieces like capos, plectrums, etc and the shelf is solidly constructed.Read more ›
The circumference of the top tube of my K&M 'student' folding music stand is circa 2.5cm so it's far too thin for the clamp to get any grip. It *just* about grips the bottom section of my stand which is nearer 4cm.
Musicians looking to add this to their music stands to hold pencils, erasers, reeds, swabs, spare instruments (piccolo in my case), mutes etc unfortunately need to look elsewhere unless their stand is of the 'heavy duty' variety.
The tray isn't lined with felt or cloth so if noise when picking up and putting down items is an issue then you'll need to find something from somewhere else to kill the clatter. On the positive side however, the clamp looks pretty strong and the metal is coated with powder black paint which won't tarnish or reflect light.
I've ordered a K&M music stand tray instead which indicates that it might be more suitable for the narrow extending tubes of my stand, although it's significantly more expensive (hence me trying the Kinsman tray first!)
EDIT: I tried the K&M tray and it still won't grip the narrow uprights of a student music stand - see my review there
This is the second Kinsman item I have purchased and happy to recommend this product to anyone. It even holds my beer !
Clamp wouldn't fit thinner stands like a folding music stand - but I think it would make such a thing too top heavy anyway.
I was a little tipsy (very) and playing a simulated driving game with my G27 (steering wheel and gearshift). I kept pulling the gearshift off of the table and got frustrated. So In haste I ordered some parts that I believed would build me the most awesome gearshift holding device even seen!
When it arrived I was a bit surprised as I wasn't fully aware I had bought it.
All that aside it is a very very well built piece of kit and will last a very long time if looked after. You can't go far wrong with this.
