5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Story, Beautiful Music! 8 Jan. 2011
By Joy - Published on Amazon.com

I just saw this film a week ago, and I was so impressed that I immediately bought the book and the sound track. It just arrived yesterday, and I immediately started listening. The remarkable thing is that I could see the various scenes in the film..as clear as day. You don't find that very often in contemporary films. Just listening, I could "hear" the spirit of this quiet, diffident and honourable man. As the score built, I could "hear" the King finding his voice. When the Speech was read...(To the glorieus music of Beethoven) I could "hear" both triumph and release.

It was truly magnificent...to hear a man painted in notes of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars LIONEL & BERTIE'S TOCCATA & FUGUE BY DESPLAT 28 April 2013
By George H. Archibald - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
The magic of Alexandre Desplat's simple Chopinesque film score for The King's Speech is a recurring child-like theme of simple piano strokes to form a lovely melody whose clever variations with orchestra created a light accompaniment to the historic story of how brusque Australian therapist Lionel Logue was anonymously recruited by Britain's future queen who sneaked out of royal seclusion to find a cure for the stuttering speech impediment of her husband, King George VI. The music marched along serenely in the film's background, as it does alone on this CD until the end, when Desplat cleverly brought in top-gun classical composer Ludwig von Beethoven for the finale, which are variations of his Bacchanalian Symphony No. 7 in A-major and Piano Concerto No. 5 "Emperor."

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect companion to the movie! 24 Mar. 2013
By Winda Wee - Published on Amazon.com

The movie was one of the most interesting biographies an incredible King
who never wanted to be King in the first place. The soundtrack is
the perfect companion to the whole beautiful package. We decided
to buy it after watching the movie (for the umpteeth time!) and are
very very pleased. Lovely classic pieces are interwoven with Alexandre
Desplat's haunting melodies! I play it during my English class so my
7th graders can write stories and hear beauty at the same time!

4.0 out of 5 stars A gentle stroll 7 July 2011
By HardyBoy64 - Published on Amazon.com

Listening to this score reminds me of a nice, gentle stroll in the park. Nothing is rushed, the notes flow from one to another and the orchestration is wonderfully simple. This score is relaxing yet not completely minimalistic in nature. There is movement, but it is slow and steady. The instrumentation is excellent and I especially love the beginning notes (track), which apparently were recorded with an old machine of the time period. This is a lovely way to begin this score.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mostly incidental music 3 Jan. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I was under the impression there would be more of the actual classical pieces that (from what I recall) were featured in the film. The movement from Beethoven's 7th is on it, but I'm pretty sure a few composers got left out, and the incidental music, while great when viewing the film, doesn't do much for me on its own.
