The King's Ginger Liqueur, 50cl
The King’s Ginger is a high-strength liqueur created by the careful maceration of ginger root, enlivened by the judicious addition of citrus in the form of lemon oil.
The King’s Ginger is the emphatically ginger liqueur that was specifically formulated by Berry Brothers in 1903 for King Edward VII. Rich and zesty, it was created to stimulate and revivify His Majesty during morning rides in his new horseless carriage and has been appreciated by bon viveurs, sporting gentlemen and high-spirited ladies ever since.
Although warming and heartening on a cold day as originally intended, it is a splendidly uplifting tonic to be appreciated on its own all year round as well as in any number of cocktails and long, refreshing drinks.
A one-word tasting note for The King’s Ginger would read; ‘delicious’. However, if you prefer more detail we offer the following. APPEARANCE: Seductively golden. NOSE: An instant warming aroma of ginger, zesty lemon, sherbet and golden syrup. PALATE: Initial sweetness followed by bite of ginger and lemon tart. Deliciously satisfying and warming mouth feel. FINISH: Lingering and extremely long.
Jonathan Ray - The Telegraph:
“Opulently and sublimely gingery. It is quite simply the finest of winter warmers and post-prandial digestifs. Best served on the rocks, it is also delicious poured over vanilla ice cream”. Jonathan Ray - The Telegraph
On its own: Pour a generous measure into a rocks glass. A delicious and warming digestif. Fantastic over ice too. Or try The King & Tonic: 50ml The King’s Ginger, 100ml Tonic Water, 1 dash of Angostura Bitters. Serve in a Collins glass with plenty of ice.

Excellent on ice as a winter warmer. Fair gives you a wee glow!
The label also has directions for various cocktails or drinks with KG in it.
By far my favourite way is a tall glass with angostura bitters shaken out, ice in, double KG in it, topped up with ginger ale and a slice of lime. I could just sit and drink that all night. Well, I have and suddenly realised the alcohol creeps up and before I know it I have balance and coordination issues.
Well this is lovely, warm, and quite sweet - but not overly so for a liqueur. The ginger is powerful and tickles your throat and the lovely initial flavour is replaced after a few seconds with a warm glow that lingers comfortingly in your throat.
Already persuaded relatives to buy this after tasting my bottle.
I honestly do not really know how to describe it. It is just, simply, absolutely tremendous! If the story about creating it for a King is true, well, I hope the creator was suitably rewarded by His Majesty.
(This morning, I have just tried a wee drap of it in a glass, topped up with some decent whisky, on the morning after a heavy rugby game [I was only watching] ... and it definitely hits the spots other spirits cannot reach.)
Wot a bottle! Wot a superb drink!

Barely any ginger taste at all. Quite cloying unless diluted with a mixer.Published 1 month ago by D. Kinlan
I adore ginger so rolled the dice and ordered this as an ingredient in a high end drink I enjoy when I'm out so I can make it at home. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Marlowe
