This two CD set is magnificent in terms of its content, both the music and the performance by The Choir of King's College, Cambridge are very enjoyable. The tracks have been well chosen - most of the 40 tracks are atmospheric and, in many cases, will be familiar. This is an ideal compilation for travelling in the car or listening to at home. The sequencing of the tracks is effective too - a nice combination of the relaxing and rousing.

I agree with one of the other reviewers on this page in that I think the technical quality of the recording could have been slightly better on some tracks and had more "presence" to do full justice to the music and choir. However, this is a minor criticism and does not really detract from the enjoyment of these discs. Overall though I'd recommend this compilation.

I found this selection of music from Kings College Choir very enjoyable. Musically superb, emotionally fulfilling and exceedingly well chosen - these two CD's did not disappoint me in the way it has some other reviewers and I had no significant reservations over the quality of the recordings either.

If you like English music, this is exactly what you have been looking for: Zadok the Priest, Lux Aeterna, Jerusalem, Abide with me, Nimrod and so on, all sung by the Choir of King's College Cambridge. What more could you ask for? If you don't know English music and would like a taste of it, this CD is also for you. You can't get a better introduction.

Well recorded and well worth buying at this reasonable price as it contains many real favourites and is a joy to listen to.

I absolutely love this album. I'm currently teaching English in China so it's nice to hear good old English music to warm my heart.

The musical selections are good, but I was disappointed with the quality of the recording.

This wonderfully sung double CD set by Stephen Cleobury and the choir of King's College Cambridge is billed as "essential English music". Is it unreasonable to cavill, that this is the England of public school chapels (I left mine decades ago), of cathedral services and of old maids cycling to Sunday communion (to adapt Orwell)? There are renderings of hymns which most of us would never hear except in a religious context, in addition to the Purcell and Handel favourites which can rightly be expected in a collection like this.

I bought this set as I am in exile from England in China, and wanted something to feel nostalgic for. I fear the England depicted here is one most of us do not know; possibly my own fault for expecting something that was not on offer.
