Since getting a kindle last year, I've been trying out more and more authors. Sometimes the experience is pleasant; sometimes less so. This book was a pleasant experience.

As you can probably tell from the file size, it is massive and well worth the digital list price of £2.59. To give you an idea, it normally takes me around 2 to 3 hours to read a book. In contrast, I took 6 hours to read this book. Also, as a bonus, the author has included a map at the beginning (I suggest bookmarking it for when you need to flip back to it mid-adventure).

I won't bother summarising the plot as I believe it's already been done adequately under the product description.

The book starts off at the academy immediately preceding the apprenticeship ceremony. At this point, I felt that the text was a little formal and stifled. I also panicked a little bit with the extent of character introduction. However, once the author reaches the apprenticeship ceremony itself (which happens pretty early on), the story and the writing really takes off. In particular, when Tooter and her family are heading home from the ceremony, the action kicks in and the book acquires a level of urgency that doesn't go away. From that point on, the book is a pure delight to read. I'm looking forward to reading any sequels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Action Adventure Book for Everyone! 5 April 2012
By S. Reading - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I was happily surprised with The Kingdom of the Seven Shields by B. A. Beers. The book starts off a little slow as it is building up the fantasy world and explaining the background of the main character "Tooter." But once it gets going it is a constant stream of humor and action. While there are very popular fantasy elements such as magic and dragons Beers manages to give it a complete new spin. And I love how Tooter is not a damsel in distress, but she isn't a confident warrior woman either. She has a strong sense of loyalty, family and truth to her, but not so much that you feel like it is overpowering. Overall I LOVED this book and think that it appeals to pretty much every age group. I can't wait to read the 2nd book which came out today on kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! 11 Mar. 2012

This is a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The main character Tooter was charming and believable; her friends and siblings were great secondary characters. I especially liked the family dynamics of the royal family. The friend turned villain was chilling and disturbing... perfect for this type of book. The dragon/human relationship reminded me a little of Anne McCaffrey... a simpler teenage version. All-in-all highly, highly recommended. Can't wait for the 2nd book!

The Isle of the Four kingdoms is an enjoyable, fun read with great characters and a fast paced story. I really liked the addition of dragons as interactive characters in the book, too cool. Can't wait to start book 2!
