The sixth book and so far the latest in David Baldacci’s King and Maxwell series. Former Secret Service Agents and now Private Investigators the pair as this tale proves do not have to look far to find their latest case.
A youth running down a street in the middle of a severe storm catches the attention of Michelle Maxwell. The fact he has a gun is an important aspect in getting Maxwells attention. What follows contributes to a series of events that lead to treason, treachery and murder.
From Afghanistan through Pakistan and on to India a father tries to get back to a son who believes his father to be dead. An individual sets out to exact revenge against a political establishment who betrayed a member of his family. The complexities and corruption of modern government are exposed as individuals seek self-preservation in order to retain access to political power.
Not really sure if Baldacci intends giving us more King and Maxwell adventures? The conclusion leaves that option open. From a personal perspective I hope that there are more. Baldacci has gone on to to write more books with different characters so there are no shortage of additional books to get from this particular author.
Highly recommended series, treat yourself and catch a suntan while you race around catching the bad Guys.
Another great tale from Baldacci, the man tells a good story, easy to listen to and follow the plot.
I think from this you can see why TV was interested, the characters bounce off each other well.
They are both still good characters, but the story behind them this time was very poor and seriously unrealistic. Granted, this is fiction, but some things were just silly.
For starters, the reliance on king and maxwell by the whole US government and the president himself was crazy. The personal access they had to the president; the amount of classified info they were given; the freedom to do whatever they wanted, etc. was just too far fetched and made the book unrealistic beyond belief.
Also the way king and maxwell pieced the puzzle together and the relative ease in which they stopped the master plot was ridiculous.
Overall, a great potential storyline...ruined by an author who seemed to eager to get the next book out rather than thinking about an imaginative, yet realistic, plot.
Hugely disappointed in this one.
Some parts were maybe too unbelievable but more towards the ending. Love to know how they made their money to keep business going?
