I can highly and thoroughly recommend this book to all fantasy readers, and it is my firm belief that this new author is one to watch, and to watch closely!
Even were the above not too patently true, the quality of the grammar and editing are so bad as to make the mere act of reading it a continual irritation. Connell clearly has no idea what an apostrophe is or where to use it. His plot lines exude laziness. Buster is ten years old on one page and then twelve on the next. A fortress is full of provisions but short on weapons on one page and then the reverse is true three pages on - soon after that there appears to be neither food nor weapons. Had I not been stuck on a train, this one would have been for the archive bin in short measure. Don't buy this - buy the infinitely superior originals.
It promised so much & gave too little. The narrative voice is very weak & wooden, & I found it jarring almost immediately but I foolishly expected it to improve; it never did. Though the story held some promise, again it failed to deliver. The characters are one dimensional & frankly unrealistic.
Yet it was the usual Kindle problem of none existent editing that made it unreadable in the end.

No originality and badly written. Spelling errors, incorrect grammar and no consistency in story, force numbs, time of day etc. Get a good proof reader!Published 17 months ago by Paul Berry
Poor plot and poorly written. A disappointing read. Don't usual submit reviews but really struggled to persevere and reach the end. Won't be buying any follow-up books.Published 18 months ago by Philip J Lacey
