A worthy companion to the recent Oscar winning movie "The King's Speech".It gave a thoroughly interesting account of King George VI and showed how loved and respected he was by the British public and the world. It was unfortunate that the heavy burden of being King contributed to his premature death.

Has always been my favourite monarch, bless his brave and beautiful heart. Just watching this fragile man putting his very life on the line for his country and all because of his worthless brother is heart wrenching. He had had a lot of ridicule and impatience from his father and brother but he earned nothing but love, gratitude and respect from his people. He will go down in history as one of our very best and I'm delighted that with "The King's Speech" and with this DVD he is finally receiving his long due accolades in the rest of the world. I recommend this disk.

This DVD is more to explain some of the questions that might be asked from people who watch the film the King's Speech staring the actor Colin Firth, this DVD is more in the form of a documentary with original film and interviews from the people involved in the late king's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Biography 13 Nov. 2014

I loved the movie "The Kings Speech" because it covered some little known history about King George. He was an incredibly brave man who gave his life to his county, just like his daughter 'Queen Elizabeth" has done in her lifetime. The most interesting part about the abdication is that I was unaware that Edward had popular support for his marriage to Wallis Simpson. Although it is very sad that their love caused him to have to abdicate, she was a very unsuitable individual to be at the head of Great Britain. Not because of her multiple marriages, but because she was extremely indiscrete, had several relationships while she was involved with Edward. I think this documentary was actually kind to both of them as Edward's involvement with Hitler and her involvement with the German ambassador to Great Britain could have made Great Britain a part of Germany. They both were very foolish and self-involved people and had no place in being heads of state. Although it is very interesting to follow the personal lives of the Royal family, ultimately the Royal family has an enormous privilege and responsibility to the citizens they represent. This is a serious job for serious people.
3.0 out of 5 stars Does not deliver on the promise of it's title. 17 Oct. 2016

Eh, it was okay....I wanted to learn more about the story of King George VI, but this movie didn't really deliver on the promise of it's title. It basically just rehashed what I'd already learned from watching "The Kiing's Speech" in a very dry way. I did enjoy seeing some of the old newsreels and such, but overall, I didn't feel like I got any more or any deeper information about the man behind "the King's Speech"....

4.0 out of 5 stars King George VI: The Man behind The King's Speech 9 Feb. 2013

I really enjoyed this historic retrospective. It enlightened me about King George VI and his formative years. I only wish it had been longer and elaborated a bit more on his relationship with his speech therapist. A good companion DVD for the movie.
