Two official biographies were commissioned of George V by his son George VI - one a personal memoir by John Gore, and this, a political biography by the minor diplomat and well-known writer Harold Nicholson. Well-written and generally balanced account, which conceals well the fact that Nicholson's opinion of his subject had often been fairly low. Does not match up to Kenneth Rose's much later biography, but an interesting comparison piece
