excellent! recommended! deep, strange, gripping! works as a straight-forward adventure story, with complicated political intrigues, as well as a philosophical treatise on life, death, possible after-life experiences, magic and telepathy...rich, packed with images, fantastic metaphors and elegant language...i re-read the trilogy about every five years, and find more depth, more resonance, each time... good stuff!

Fiction at its finest. R.A. MacAvoy is an amazing writer.
The second book of The Lens of the World trilogy is as beautifully written as the first and as engrossing.

The characters have been wonderfully delineated by R. A. MacAvoy, a superb wordsmith who has them lead the narrative through their backgrounds and experiences woven into an absorbing whole. I am about to start the third book, and plan to keep them all to re-read them in the future. These books contain a wonderful story I'd recommend to any one, and especially for lovers of beautifully written fantasy. 5 stars !!
An excellent series

Once again, R.A. MacAvoy does not disappoint. Not a happy-go-lucky plot, for sure, but fgy.ascinating character development and odd plot twists. I heartily recommend the entire trilogy.

Great read! I enjoy the way she writes. Started > 20 yrs past with the Trio for Lute books. Will stop at this part of the tale, though. I heard the third book sucks.
Don't read it during a northern winter.

This is the second of a superior trilogy. Really hard to put down. My only criticism of the series is a caution - it's best read in Summer, Spring or Fall -- the narrator spends a LOT of time REALLY cold. The descriptions of the hardships of traveling in a cold clime can be really chilling - physically..
