Designed to feel as light as paper, Kindle Oasis is over 20% lighter and 30% thinner on average than any other Kindle. The handgrip tapers to an ultra-thin 3.4 mm display so you can read comfortably for hours.
Kindle Oasis combines our strongest cover glass and a featherweight frame infused with metal using structural electroplating, ensuring it is lightweight while also resilient enough to take it with you everywhere you go.
A tapered ergonomic handgrip shifts the centre of gravity to your palm, to rest in your hand like the spine of a book. Perfectly balanced for one-handed reading, Kindle Oasis lets you lose yourself in your story.
Comfortably turn the page with either the touch display or dedicated page turn buttons located on the front of the handgrip. Whether you choose to read with your left or right hand, Kindle Oasis automatically rotates the page orientation to match.
Highest-resolution Kindle with enhanced lighting
Kindle Oasis features a high-resolution 300 ppi display for crisp text, which reads like the printed page, on the same 6” display size as Kindle Voyage. A redesigned built-in light features 60% more LEDs than any other Kindle, increasing the consistency and range of screen brightness for improved reading in all types of lighting. Kindle Oasis guides light towards the surface of the display with its built-in front light—unlike back-lit tablets that shine in your eyes—so you can read comfortably for hours without eye strain.
Dual-battery charging system provides the longest battery life of any Kindle
Charge the device and cover simultaneously while joined together and plugged in. When on the go, the cover will recharge the device automatically, giving you months of combined battery life. Plus, a new hibernation mode minimises power consumption when your Kindle is inactive, extending battery life to its fullest capacity.
Premium leather cover
The removable charging cover is made of high-quality leather and comes in your choice of black, merlot or walnut. The cover opens like a book and fits closely around the bezel, waking Kindle Oasis when opened and putting it to sleep when closed. Twelve magnets form a secure and solid attachment between device and cover, while still easy to detach when the lightest possible weight is desired.

Summary: It's a worthy investment. It is SO user-friendly (non-tiring, one-handed holding) and easy to have around with me. In the year that I've had it, it's made me read more and more. Just because it's so easy. If you're shopping for your first kindle and this model is an option for you, don't be scared that you won't make the most of it. You will fall in love it. Totally exceeded expectations.
The reasons I went for the Oasis and not the others were:
- Extra slim design (esp if you remove the cover)
- Balanced for one-handed use (ie. distinct from other "pad" devices)
- High finish (not a device that I will be tempted to replace any time soon)
- Page-turning buttons. I'm not a fan of tapping the screen to turn pages (lag, erroneous turning etc)
- It was my birthday
Pros I've confirmed/discovered after lots of use:
- Friendly for long-term holding. I have tiny hands, and for me this kindle is the perfect size.
- Hidden juice in the cover. I usually use the kindle without its cover so my hands don't get tired. When I put it away back in its cover, it gets recharged (quite quickly, too). I've found this practice lasts me about two to three weeks of semi-intense summer reading.
- Page turning buttons. Instantaneous and well placed for zero faff. You don't have to reposition at all.
- Backlight is perfect. Good range. I usually have mine on the 3rd setting.
Con (although I love it, there is always room for improvement):
- Not being able to charge the cover battery directly. A small point, but in terms of user-friendliness, if you're sitting on your sofa at home reading, it's annoying to have to stop and plug in your Oasis just so that you can charge your cover. I find myself wishing that I could charge the cover on the side, and simply snap it on when the Oasis is running low too.

My Kindle Keyboard finally died after more than 5 years of very heavy use. I loved that Kindle, with its 3G and superb battery life, and all I wanted from an upgrade was a backlit screen and a touchscreen so that a keyboard wasn't required on the bezel of the Kindle.
What I got was a disappointment. Firstly, at a cost of £270 it should (but doesn't) include 3G. Despite switching off wifi and the backlight, the battery life is nowhere near as good as that on my old Keyboard, which makes me wonder at the exorbitant cost of a charging cover. And the 'Time to read' function is driving me mad, because after more than 3 months of daily use it still vastly underestimates the time it will take me to read the remainder of a chapter. If it estimates 10 minutes, I know it's more likely to take me 20 minutes, and I am a faster than average reader! But worst of all is that my cover no longer seems to be charging: for the past two nights I have plugged in my Oasis to charge it, the orange light has glowed to show that it is charging but when I get up in the morning, after 8 hours on charge, the Kindle itself has charged to 100% but the cover stubbornly remains at a precise and consistent 68%. I will be returning this to Amazon, and hopefully a replacement will live up to expectations, but based on current experience I would NOT recommend this model.
Today was the first time I had to charge my Kindle since purchase, so I am updating this review for this. The battery has lasted 45 days on a single charge. This includes an average light output of 9 and at least theee days of 10+12 hour use. Decent.
First I feel I need to say: this product is not worth anywhere near it's asking price. I recommend anyone eyeing it waits until they release the inevitable Oasis upgrade.
Now that I have said that, on to the positives.
While I read of poor build quality from other reviews with multiple part failures, I was lucky enough to receive a perfectly functional (so far at least) Oasis. The LED distribution provides an even spread of light across the E-Ink display, with very few areas of variation and only at certain medium-light settings.
The software is a little clunky, but that will be familiar to other Kindle users. It works much faster on this device than others I have tried in the past and the page-turning (while still associated with its patent brain-itching high-pitched squeel) is smooth enough that it is done by the time my eyes flick to the top of the page.
I'm pretty happy with the battery life; I read 1-8 hours daily and have so far not had to recharge. A month to the day and I presently have the cover at 25% and the Kindle itself at 90%.
Over-all, I'm extremely happy with the product; it does everything I've wanted, and does so in a beautiful form factor I have been waiting for since e-readers hit the market. I knew I wouldn't be happier with a lesser product & that is the only reason I let Amazon gouge me with the price. Take from that what you will.
