This is good, but quite slow and takes a long time to reach the conclusion.
For example, the first two seasons deal with the murder of just one girl, before moving on to a fresh case in season three.

There are a lot of twists and you will find that your trust of certain characters will come and go, then come back again, then go again.
In my opinion, the first two seasons did drag on a bit, with there being a lot of episodes in each season.
Season three is a lot shorter, and cuts to the point a lot quicker.

It was worth the watch, but I wouldn't watch it again, so my advice is to rent it.
My wife enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

I really like season 1 but the Larson story continued into season 2 and in my opinion, just dragged on and on. I nearly gave up watching season 2 because of this. The story should have ended with Season 1. And because of this I gave up on The Killing. I recently saw that Seasons 3 and 4 were out on DVD so for "old time sake" I though I'd give it another go - what an absolute cracker Season 3 is. The right amount of tension and pace and unusually, the identity of the killer was not guessable until very near the end. I'll definitely watch Season 4 and, hopefully this too will be very good.

Some two years ago I watched the excellent original Danish version and having some time to kill (no pun intended) decided to settle down on netflix and watch the American adaption....could it be as good or even better? In short no but it is still an excellent series and one that you must be prepared to engage with and spend some time with over a long period to really feel the benefits, the enjoyment and possibly play amateur detective as you along with Detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder analyse the evidence and decide who killed lovely Rosie Larsen.

The story differs from the original ie the killer is not the same and thus this makes the final outcome different. I was able to identify the killer quite will hidden but always obvious (to say more would give the plot away) however there was a great twist in the final episode which was astounding and showed that the killer did not work alone.....his accomplice will sadden and amaze you! Sarah Linden will not amaze you however she may as a detective have proved more than capable but as a mother she is a total failure. She appears to work 24 hours per day, live out of motels, eat only ready made fast food, and more importantly leave her poor son Jack all alone to deal with his own teenage angst...is it any wonder that her proposed marriage never happens and that Jack finally returns to live with his father in Chicago.

The American series does suffer from the fact that it is unnecessarily long and would have benefited from some good editing; there is one complete chapter devoted to the search for Jack who disappears (not that I blame you Jack with a mother like Sarah Linden) and we spend a wasted 45 minutes in an attempt to locate him.....

Having watched the original on the BBC and was engrossed I had mixed feelings approaching this version. By the end of the first episode of the US version, or maybe before, we were hooked. The two detectives are as usual highly troubled people not least about an atrocious crime amidst a hard-fought political contest. Sometimes one episode was not enough, it is that kind of box set. Looking forward to series 2 at some point. Whether you have seen the original or not you owe it to yourself to investigate this series.

I've yet to see the original but I LOVED The Killing. Moody, atmospheric, slow to build which makes it compulsive viewing. The evolution of Linden &Holders relationship is central and ultimately defines the series. Yes, series 4 does need to be included...to complete the story but 1-3 can stand alone to a degree. Fans of Luther & The Fall will enjoy. I'm gutted it's finished...on the plus side I have my life back!!!

I read reviews of this ages ago, and was extremely reluctant to believe some of the hype. I started watching the original foreign version but couldn't get to grips with it, so started to watch this. Its your typical murder mystery, with two key detectives (one grumpy the other wacky) with a host of suspects that take them for the first two seasons on the hunt to solve a murder. From the offset I was hooked, the acting is top class and I couldnt help be drawn in. It's not your typical CSI tv, this is something very special, gut wrenching, funny, but most importantly it has a heart. The first two series are quite simply outstanding, I have not seen anything that even comes close in the murder mystery area, and I watch everything. Season 3 and 4 are shorter tales, just as disturbing and well told and I would love Netflix to continue what was started. Both lead actors are an amazing contrast, with the male lead standing out and acting as a perfect uplift to the female leads spiralling life.

If you like a good who done it, and are willing to wait and enjoy the ride then you cannot beat this. it may not be for everyone, it may take some a while to get it, but no one can fault the genius here, it makes this stand out so far from other shows that I feel I have wasted so much watching the same crap.....I rarely find a show zi love, but this is one of those.
