5.0 out of 5 starsWhere has Jim Laughter been all my life?
14 May 2015 - Published on Amazon.com
This was my first experience reading a Jim Laughter book and I have just one question. Where has this guy been all my life. People say my fascination with old time serial killers like Jack the Ripper is weird, but now I've found a kindred spirit. The author has obviously done a great deal of research on old Jack and he weaves it skillfully through the narrative so that key bits of information are always a surprise. I read this book out of order in the series, but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story line at all. I'm definitely going to read THE APOSTLE MURDERS.
Mr. Laughter has developed interesting characters. His story held my attention and kept me reading nonstop. It is apparent the author did much research to embed his fictional story in the reality of the security procedures used to protect the United States president. The author even went so far as to make the real sex/prostitute scandal associated with Obama's administration part of this book. The fact that the author appeared to work so hard to implant his story in reality leads me to question why he made random cutting remarks about the president that had nothing to do with advancing the story.
A crafty thriller with all the elements to keep a reader turning pages. The spirit of Jack the Ripper inhabits the body of a prominent Washington doctor and the same team from The Apostle Murders attempts to solve the murders of prostitutes around the country. Descriptions are vivid. The writing is excellent. Keeps you on your bed at night turning pages. I would have given it 5-stars but for the fact that if you read The Apostle Murders, you know what to expect from each character. Great read.
