Product Description

Product Description

If you ever watched La Dolce Vita wishing that Swedish sex siren Anita Ekberg would get out of the Trevi fountain, turn junkie, torture some pensioners and stalk innocent young nuns for kinky sex in a convent then Killer Nun is the film for you!

Originally banned in the UK, Shameless is proud to bring you Killer Nun uncut and ready to repent for the first time on UK DVD! One of the true greats of the nunsploitation genre this stunningly shot descent into the morphine-addled world of Sister Gertrude (Ekberg) is high on style and vivid with deliciously surreal murders. Boasting a powerhouse performance from Ekberg and banned upon release in Italy this is one DVD not to take into the confessional box!

KILLER NUN (cert. 18) is released on DVD by Shameless Screen Entertainment. The film is presented remastered in 1.85:1 with English 2.0 sound, in region 0. Also included on the disc is an exclusive interview with star Anita Ekberg and Shameless original trailer gallery.

This film always seems to get bad reviews along with quite good ones, and that will always stay the same, but I found this very enjoyable - although I will be the first to admit that it is in no way absolutely blinding. Why this works quite well is that the actual story is based on some fact. In Brussels there was a nun who 'assisted' the deaths of some old patients so that she could pilfer from them to pay for her morphine habit. The real nun in question had an operation to remove a tumour from her brain but she was left with blinding headaches, which eventually drove her to a dependancy upon morphine.

If the script had been left like that we would have had just another biopic, but istead some more violent serial killing is added, but is this done by the nun? Eventually everyone comes to think so. This edition has the censored scene of the pins in the face re-added, along with some other scenes that were originally left out of the British showing, you know which ones these are because they are subtitled, whereas the rest of the film is dubbed.

The killings are slightly surreal, adding to a greater impact upon the viewer, and with the gorgeous Paola Morra as a nun who has lesbian urgings for Anita Ekberg, we are given some titillation, especially as Paola gives us a few glimpses of that beautiful body of hers. Also shown is the machinations of the Church, where the whole event is covered up and the nun is removed to a cell in the Convent; after all the Church has been doing this kind of thing for years, what with peadophiles, etc. All in all then this film is worth a viewing and is quite enjoyable.

Some people seem to approach this as just another Nun film, nunsploitation and it's bevy of breasts, heavy breathing, naughty catholic guilt trips & general rolling about in a naughty way. An excuse for watching high and mighty get reduced to feral felines. Some might even expect boundless bloodletting, or a giallo-like plot that unravels in a weird way and puts scooby doo to shame. Needless to say exploitation is exactly that. Ballyhoo of a product that suggests much but may well deliver something completely different, or at least a partial flavour of something else. There is a killer, there is a nun. There are certainly repressions being expressed. But not in a garish way, more geared toward short brush strokes. Then the film throws occasional moments of dotty behaviour...all suggestive of a confining, damaged world view...

This film is not merely all about the standard hand wringing guilt, the sexual shennanigans of a lot of repressed gals who strangely resemble models. It seemed to be a brief observation of a dame as she deteriorates, who has been operated on for a brain tumour, who has still got a few problems and not just headaches.

Amongst the plot, meandering as it may be, people are being knocked off, some are being merely treated badly. In short then, it's worse case scenario: a nun who isn't sure of herself or her religion, exacerbated rapidly given her strong libido & her confused mental state; looking after old folk in a confined area is trying at the best of times even without guilt, religious anxiety & a rather overtly sensual fellow nun...then of course theres the need for drugs to ease her 'suffering' becoming an addiction...

A morphine addicted nun is suspected of killing some of her charges at a hospital and making them look like accidents, but is she to blame.

Brilliantly fun piece of 70's nunsploitation. Anita Ekberg stars as the morphine addicted nun sister Gertrude, she plays the character which could have looked a little ridiculous very well indeed, Paola Morra plays the stunning beautiful sister Mathieu, also a nun who does some very strange things. Whilst not as extreme and graphic as other nunsploitation films like- The Devils, Flavia The Heretic- it does contain some staples of the genre, lesbianism, nudity & murder. A couple of standout scenes, Sister Gertrude stamps on an old ladies false teeth smashing them to bits is actually quite funny, and when she takes off her habit and goes out in civilian clothes finds a man & has sex with him in a doorway. The dubbing is terrible, pacing is a little slow and the twist ending gets more and more obvious as the movie goes along, but this is well acted & fairly well written and directed piece of 70's horror, a fun and very watchable little pic.

On the video nasty list however this is not violently graphic in fact the violence is really quite restrained, the UK dvd cover sports the most violent scene in the film. The mix of religion and sex is more prevalent in the film and more likely the reason (the original VHS pre-cert cover featured an image that could have been misconstrued as something).

Big disappointment. Even in this uncut version the movie is dull, and there is nothing in the movie that should have been cut, and no reason at all why it should ever have been unavailable. The movie could have been livened up with a nice gratuitous lesbian scene when a nude nun expresses her love for another, but it never happens.
