Review

The volume is nothing short of an editorial tour de force. It will be indispensable for all libraries supporting graduate work on Kierkegaard.--P.K. Moser "Choice "

Because they contain important philosophical insights and clues to the meaning of the text in his published works, and this unconditioned by pseudonymity, most scholars have traditionally sought to find there what are presumed to be Kierkegaard's own views. . . . This volume and those to come will enrich and deepen the scholarly discussions of Kierkegaard's thought in the English-speaking world.--Andrew S. Nam "Religious Studies Review "

"For all of his lyricism, many of Kierkegaard s works project themselves as an impenetrable fortress of abstractions. These magnificently translated journals are a tunnel beneath the moat of that fortress. They capture the unpackaged and unbuttoned Kierkegaard and thus provide a stimulus to anyone intent on understanding a religious author who could well be reckoned a Luther of Lutheranism."--Gordon Marino, "Christian Century""

Format: Hardcover
This series of volumes, when complete, will offer for the first time in English as complete a collection of Kierkegaard's Journals and Notebooks as is currently available in any language. It will finally bring students of Kierkegaard in English up to date with their Danish counterparts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something long needed in Kierkegaard scholarship 24 Feb. 2009
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This first volume of what is expected to be a 13-volume set marks an important milestone in Kierkegaard scholarship. It, when completed, will be a full English translation of all of Kierkegaard's voluminous private musing about all kinds of subjects. Until now, those who cannot read Danish were relegated to scattered translations of parts of these important writings. The best was the Hong's 6-volume "Journals and Papers," which had two major faults; it was incomplete and was organized by topics. The 13-volumes of this set will be chronological insofar as that is possible, and that will make it much easier to study Kierkegaard's development and progression of thought. I hope that this set will be published in a searchable electronic form and that the price becomes much more reasonable.
