This was NOT your normal boring book launch - it had a film of the sponsoring charity Solidarity Sports and free food - always a bonus AND the best bit was when children from the book did speeches about why you should eat heathy food! So brave of them to do that.
This book is a collection of recipes from the multicultural children who attend the charity that (taken from their website) "inspires children to live healthy lifestyles, increase their confidence and develop valuable life skills to help them reach their full potential." The main author Sean Mendez, also director of the association, explained how he realized healthy eating was so important to the success of their objectives.
In the words of Marco Pierre White (Gordon Ramsay's mentor and the first British chef to get 3 michelin stars) this is a BEAUTIFUL AND INSPIRING FAMILY COOKBOOK - the pictures are full of children having fun and enjoying making the food. it is a REAL cookbook that also gives great advice to parents. The intro explains why parents should cook with their children and tips like get the children to read the instructions of the recipes out loud so they practice their reading and learn to follow directions better.
All the countries have 4 pages (2 page spreads on each one) - the first one has interesting facts, photos and proverbs from the country like "Did you know that Chinese people use chopsticks because forks were considered as weapons?" this bit is esp good for kids to learn about other countries.
The recipies so far are very easy and fun to make, affordable and really good. Thanks to everyone at Solidarity Sports charity for a WONDERFUL book launch and cook book
Step by step the cooking method is documented with pictures of cheerful kids cooking the menu. And the book is illustrated with a lot interesting pictures presenting different countries without stereotyping. Even I learned some unexpected things... or did you know that an average Greek person consumes over 26 liters of olive oil per year?
Simple ingrediants, easy to cook & at the same time delicous results! We especially enjoyed the mexican chicken fajitas. We adults were so surprised how much even the youngest loved this spicy dish with cajun, chilli and cumin.
Yummie pictures of meals from all over the world that motivated the kids to try some food they never heard about before! They chose the Jollof Rice from Ghana just because they loved the name of it. And it turned out to be become a standard family dish by now, as it is simply delicious and you can make endless variations with mushrooms, prawns, different kind of veggies... what ever is left in the fridge!
All in all a very fun way to teach kids how to cook, being open towards new food from all over the world and to make them curious about these countries.
It makes such a nice difference to see finally a cookbook FOR children with meals without fairy cakes and silly smiles... I can highly recommend it!
It's got great pictures, loads of colour and multi-cultured theme. Great buy if you have children, and some of the profits go to a good cause. Highly recommend this book.
