Product description

About the Author

I am a freelance writer and have operated Diane Mannion Writing Services (www.dianemannion.co.uk) for the past six years. Having ghostwritten several e-books on behalf of clients I decided to start writing and publishing books under my own name. The idea for "Kids' Clubs and Organizations - A Comprehensive UK Guide" was first conceived more than 10 years ago. My own kids were toddlers at the time and I noticed that there was a growing trend for parents to get their kids involved in all kinds of after school activities. I felt that it would be useful to provide something that parents and carers could refer to in order to find information about suitable kids' clubs and activities in their regions. The book has already been well received since the launch of the Kindle version with a number of positive reviews on parenting websites and magazines. I intend to follow this book with other books on parenting topics in the near future. Long term I plan to publish novels and have already written my first, a crime thriller, which I hope to publish in early 2013. To receive regular updates regarding my books please visit the book page of my website at: http://www.dianemannion.co.uk/books.html or my facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Diane-Mannion-Writing-Services/285019144850839.

Being a busy mother, author, university student and housewife on a budget, I am always struggling for two things: money and time. Childcare is so expensive that it is all but inaccessible, yet all parents need some time to work, have a break or follow their own aspirations from time to time. This guide is the one for you if you feel like this. There is a plethora of good ideas in this book, and some great ways to spend time or access facilities for your family.

This guide is indeed comprehensive, current and very well researched and I have already recommended it to several mothers that I know.

As a mother of an overactive three year old, I was interested in checking this book out.

"Kids' Clubs and Organisations" provides a list of activities that are suitable for kids, from babies to teenagers. Examples of the activities listed are toy libraries (chapter 1), Scouts and Guides (chapter 7) and arts and crafts (chapter 15).

Let's be clear, this book provides general information on the activities that are available, including contact information for nationwide organisations. It is not a list of every single toddler group, club or sports centre in the whole of the UK. Not only would that be an impossible task, it would also create an unwieldy book that would be a nightmare to navigate!

Mannion has clearly spent a lot of time researching what activities are available for children of all age ranges. Furthermore she has presented the information in a clear, easy to navigate way.

As I said, the book gives you information about the types of activities that are out there and it does that extremely well. Every chapter follows the same format:
There's an overview of what you can expect from that type of activity;
A 'Who can join?' section, which gives details about age and membership requirements;
Benefits of that activity;
Costs;
And finally how to find the activity.
In some cases there is also a section on how to set up the activity yourself, which is especially pertinent for toddler groups.

My favourite section of each chapter is the benefits. It's nice to see what positive effect an activity might have on my daughter, as this helps me to decide what to do.

As the activities become targeted at older children, there is also information on how adults can get involved as volunteers.

Occasionally you come across an idea that's so simple but been waiting for years to happen , and this is it. A well researched, accurate and comprehensive description of the many options available to young people to join , belong to and benefit from ! What can I do today your teenage son or daughter will say - well here's something to sit down and look at together. See what different organisations have to offer and then use the contact info to take your first steps in joining something that is 'at least' worthwhile and probably life changing. Excellent too if you are beyond teenage years and thinking about offering some spare time as an adult volunteer. Like "If I join Army Cadets as a leader am I liable to be called up for active army service? " (Answer No).. Lots of reliable info, good advice and contact details. I recommend it.

This book is extremely well researched, thought out and written, with hassled parents and kids in mind! From start to finish it offers a wealth of information and practical solutions for bored kids (and parents!) to suit all pockets (A very necessary consideration in today's current economic climate!). I particularly like the fact that Diane has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to research and present a very concise history/synopsis of different organisations, which sets this book apart from others of similar genre.

I'm sure that this book will be a valuable reference resource for my own family and friends. I wish Diane much success in all future writing ventures!

This book is well laid out, and crammed full of information that must have taken some time to research - and that alone is worth the asking price. The book really does cover a huge variety of interests and you're sure to find some golden nugget(s) of info that you'll consider well worth the purchase. All in all then, you'll find the book very useful, and what with the fact that your kids will never be bored again, it's well worth dishing out some dosh for it.
