Oh my gosh! This book was not what I was expecting, I've never read a book by Jay McLean and it certainly will not be the last. I'm not sure what I expected but this is not a run of the mill angsty new adult romance. This book was just amazing, it was all consuming, emotional, heartbreaking and just brilliant.

Josh and Becca both have their own issues that they are dealing with. Josh being a single dad hasn't been easy on him and Becca has had an extremely difficult childhood to contend with. But somehow together they fit, they make each other whole again........well at least for a while. Your heart bleeds for these two, it aches for them, for their sorrow, hurt and emotional pain.
The pain and the emotional burdens Becca and Josh each carry is almost palpable, pushing its way out of the pages demanding to be felt on some level. It's raw and gripping. The ending, well I'm not quite over that just yet, I need the next book.....like right away.

This book touches upon some really difficult topics that some readers may find distressing.

Wow, I have no words, I'm an emotional wreck, I think. I've had this book for a while and I was holding on to it as its a two parter. I was going to try and prolong the read, but once I started I couldn't put it down. I loved Josh, I hated Josh, I cried for Josh, I cheered for Josh. At 17 Josh becomes a dad, not just a dad, but a single dad, and for 3 years he rocks the position on his own, with no help from his parents or Tommy's mum. He forgoes his dream of pro-skating and raises Tommy, with the help of some fantastic friends. Then Becca comes into their lives, and she rocks their world. Things are good for a few months, there are a few hiccups that need working through, but I was sure that eventually they would work through them. Communication definitely needed to factor higher in their relationship. Then Tommy's mum turns up, and things turn bad, very bad. Roll on book 2, Coast, I need Josh and Becca to get the HEA they so deserve.

She did it again!!! 😊 👏 Another 5* read.

Jay McLean certainly knows how to write a gripping read and how to reel you in. I absolutely loved the story of Josh and Becca. Josh hasn't had it easy being left with his son to bring him up alone without any family help, things seem to be on the up for him at last and Becca is a big part of that. Unfortunately life isn't that easy and certainly tests him to his limits. Becca has her own demons to fight and without giving any spoilers the story is of how will the two of them cope.

The shining light is without a doubt Josh's son Tommy who is firetrucking adorable and is a big character all on his own.

This is another book by Jay McLean that you won't want to down, I'd recommend it to all who love a good read. Of course when you get to the end you might need to stop yourself from either throwing your kindle at the wall or hunting down Jay McLean to ask her WHY!?!

Jay McLean is the only author who can make me laugh, cry and feel all within the same sentence. She doesn't just write a book to keep people happy, she writes a book because it's her! It is in her heart and soul, and you feel exactly this with every book, page, chapter and sentence she writes.
Kick, Push isn't just any ordinary romance novel. It is an experience, a journey and such a complex story that will stay with you forever.
We were introduced to Josh Warden in Where The Road Takes Me and I immediately felt drawn to his character and his story. So when Jay gave the word of his book, I just knew it was going to be something outstanding.
But what I actually read was something so real and so sensitive, that slams its way into your heart, making it one of those forever reads. One of those books that you know you will always think about and a story you will hold onto weeks after reading.
From the very beginning of this story, you feel the struggle that Josh goes through. A single teen Dad who wants nothing but the best for his son, forgetting himself and his own happiness just to ensure that he can give the world to his boy, Tommy. It's an act so selfless that many people will be able to connect and relate to. And just when Josh thinks that he has reached the lowest point, he is offered solace, a new beginning and a chance to better himself and Tommy. When he finds himself coasting on the straight and narrow, he meets Becca.
Becca is without a doubt the most complex heroine I have had the pleasure of reading. She is such an outstanding beauty on the inside as well as the out and her story really is something so devastating, it captures you and you just want to do everything to heal this girl with the emerald eyes.

I can't remember the last night I read a book in a day but this book had me from the start. The story of Josh and Tommy evoked every emotion known to man and I loved every word. On one hand I could kick myself that this book was left unread on my kindle for so long but on the other I don't have to wait to long to read Coast !!!!
Jay McLean has quickly become one of my favourite authors her words will stay with me for a long time - Kick, Push, Coast !
