Josh and Becca both have their own issues that they are dealing with. Josh being a single dad hasn't been easy on him and Becca has had an extremely difficult childhood to contend with. But somehow together they fit, they make each other whole again........well at least for a while. Your heart bleeds for these two, it aches for them, for their sorrow, hurt and emotional pain.
The pain and the emotional burdens Becca and Josh each carry is almost palpable, pushing its way out of the pages demanding to be felt on some level. It's raw and gripping. The ending, well I'm not quite over that just yet, I need the next book.....like right away.
This book touches upon some really difficult topics that some readers may find distressing.
What an absolute gem of a book this is a first read for me by this author and it will most definitely not be my last I loved it the storyline and character's are fantastic and truly unique no spoilers from me but this is a must read book I can only rate 5 stars but it's worth so much more definitely a must read
Kick, Push isn't just any ordinary romance novel. It is an experience, a journey and such a complex story that will stay with you forever.
We were introduced to Josh Warden in Where The Road Takes Me and I immediately felt drawn to his character and his story. So when Jay gave the word of his book, I just knew it was going to be something outstanding.
But what I actually read was something so real and so sensitive, that slams its way into your heart, making it one of those forever reads. One of those books that you know you will always think about and a story you will hold onto weeks after reading.
From the very beginning of this story, you feel the struggle that Josh goes through. A single teen Dad who wants nothing but the best for his son, forgetting himself and his own happiness just to ensure that he can give the world to his boy, Tommy. It's an act so selfless that many people will be able to connect and relate to. And just when Josh thinks that he has reached the lowest point, he is offered solace, a new beginning and a chance to better himself and Tommy. When he finds himself coasting on the straight and narrow, he meets Becca.
Becca is without a doubt the most complex heroine I have had the pleasure of reading. She is such an outstanding beauty on the inside as well as the out and her story really is something so devastating, it captures you and you just want to do everything to heal this girl with the emerald eyes.Read more ›
I fell in love with Josh from the blurb because the notion of a seventeen-year-old single dad raising his child all alone really got me in the feels. From the minute I opened my kindle, I was sucked into the story and it was so hard to put this book down. I adored Josh and Tommy and my heart ached for Becca when she arrived and she was so obviously damaged. I loved the build up of their relationship and how patient Josh was with her. It was so beautifully poetic, but, of course, I also knew that things were going to turn messy because both mains were broken and traumatized in their own way and not capable of fully supporting one another yet.
When Josh broke down, I broke down with him. There were tears, and I felt so bad for our couple because Josh said the worst thing he could ever say to Becca but how was he to know because she hadn't opened up to him about her past? I thought my heart would rip right out of my chest it was hurting so badly.
Jay has this innate ability to wrap her hand around your heart and make you feel everything the characters are feeling. Emotional complexity at it's very finest. Amazingly heartbreaking and entertaining and so addictive.
An absolutely superb read and one I can highly recommend.
