Review

"A remarkable story of hope and determination in the face of seemingly unsurmountable odds, which lingers in the mind long after the book is laid aside" (Valerie Bierman)

"A touching story . . . Vividly described" (Times Educational Supplement)

"This book really makes you understand how lucky we are not to be living in the poverty-stricken 1930s. We get a vivid picture of what it must be like to have little money or food" (Independent on Sunday)

Book Description

Two touching, remarkable stories of hope featuring a brave, indomitable girl named Kezzie, from critically-acclaimed author Theresa Breslin.

This by far has been the best war book I have ever read. The tale of Kezzie Munro and her family is inspiring, mind blowing
and sentimental. I felt the pang of grief Kezzie felt for her dead relatives, her missing sister and the Blitz. This book is awe inspiring and in parts you will cry, laugh and put your hands over your mouth in shock and horror. Theresa Breslin has written this book perfectly. The person who has written this review is 12!! :)

Format: Paperback
The story gave some insight into the life of the working classes in 1930 and the use of child emigration schemes where different agencies such as Dr Barnado's and Church organisations brought many children to a better life in Canada. The story showed that not all the children were happy. The spirit of Kezzie and her determination to have her family re-united was a satisfying story starting with the theme of poverty and helplessness and ending with hope for the future.
