I bought this for my girlfriend as she loves baking and I love cake so even I was quite excited when it arrived. I originally ordered the raspberry red but after one fairly light use it seemed to make an unpleasant grinding noise so back it went.
Not to be deterred on my quest for more baked goods it was collected and replaced with the Peppercorn black as raspberry was out of stock.I don't know if we caught the overlap of versions but for some reason Kenwood decided not to include as many attachments with the new one, mainly the spatula (flexi beater) attachment was not included. This would be less of an issue if the attachments were closer to the bowl as at their default setting if your creaming some butter then mixing you'll have a nice layer of butter stuck to the bowl. The attachments are adjustable though with a small spanner included, it's fairly straight forward but if you go too far by a little bit you'll end up with a nice spirograph pattern in the bottom of your bowl (sigh).
After adjusting and messing around a bit it has been pretty good and my gut has been thankful, pizza dough is great chuck in the ingredients whack on the hook and let it do the job. I have been known to do a couple of batches myself :). As mentioned in another review I would be aware that it really doesn't like to be worked hard. So if your starting with a dry mix and bringing it together with some liquid take it slow because otherwise you'll here an unpleasant noise and probably need to replace a cog. The whole thing is really solid and sturdy metal so why they cheaped out on the internals I will never know.
For doing large batches/mixes though it's really great, the extra attachments available look good but could be a lot more reasonably priced and I think would help the brand rep. It's something I and my girlfriend really want to like and some things about it are good but I can't help but feel a little disappointed by it so only three stars.
