After having several - SEVERAL - different hand-held electric mixers over the past 25 years, I must say that this beats them all absolutely hands down. Unlike the other pile-it-high-sell-it-cheap rubbish out there in the shops, this truly is absolutely superb. The 1st speed is indeed very slow - no more mixture splashing out of the bowl or bits of potato flying out of the saucepan when you start to mash them. The mixer is EXTREMELY quiet, it purrs along like a dream. When whisking things the mixture actually gets lifted up and around the beaters as they spin (unlike all the other machines that just displace the mixture to the sides of the bowl), resulting in a mile-high egg white volume and a Swiss roll mixture that is properly whisked to perfection. Yes, for a hand-held mixer it is quite expensive, but oh so worth it. YOU WILL NOT BE DISPLEASED.

I am happy with this mixer. It is relatively quiet but has a powerful motor. I already used this on numerous occasions rather than use my large worktop standing Kitchenaid. The only reason I have given it 4 stars rather than 5 stars is that it is advertised has having storage for the lead which I thought was a good idea. The problem is that the gap left for the lead only takes about a quarter of it and you have to wind the rest around the machine. Not a big deal but a slight irritant when I expected to store the lead neatly.

    Colour Name: Almond Cream
I'd been getting more and more into baking and cooking, and last Christmas I chose this Kenwood K-Mix in Almond as one of my presents, based purely on its looks. It doesn't disappoint in real life - it is certainly one of the most stylish hand mixers out there, with a very appealing, slightly retro shape.

It is made from painted metal rather than plastic and this means that the whole `feel' of the mixer is one of durability and good quality. Good Quality and Durability, however, are heavy in comparison to Plasticky and Cheap - this mixer is noticeably weighty when having to use it for prolonged periods. And if I find it heavy at 28 then 82-year-old Doris certainly will! (Still preferable to whipping up those egg-whites by hand though!)

It comes with both beaters (whisks) and dough hooks - I confess I wouldn't know what to do with a dough hook so I've never tried them! But the beaters are great - it's worth noting that it can be used with either one or both beaters which is handy if you only have a small bowl of something to mix.

There are five speeds plus a `pulse' setting - this is really handy for when whatever you're mixing is *almost* there ... we all know what cream goes like when it's over-whipped! I've noticed other reviews of this mixer stating that it was noisy but I haven't found that at all - in fact I've found it quite quiet, but that is compared to my Mam's one which is older than me, so perhaps it IS loud by today's standards!

The mixer is supplied with a nice stand for counter-top storage, with a space for each of the attachments. The cord wraps around into a space in the base of the mixer for neat storage ...

I've used it maybe 20 times now and initially had to get used to the greater weight. That said, it's a mixer that means business. I use it mostly for whisking eggs and sugar and it's faster than any other mixer I've used in 20 years. If it wasn't for the great weight of 3 lbs, I would have given it 5 out of 5. Don't buy it for your mother if she's 8 stone and 75 years old.

this is a really good quality product, very happy with it. It is quite alot heavier than my previous one, which is not a problem for me, or my 9 year old daughter who uses it as much as I do. No complaints, it's a good looking product that functions as it should.

I have a Chef stand mixer that I use for many of the jobs that a hand mixer just cannot perform.

I had an older Kenwood hand mixer that was bought in the late 50s or early 60s that still works but is rather underpowered and will grind to a halt with some mixtures. I had long intended to replace it but always delayed a decision. Eventually, I bit the bullet. This is just brilliant. The attachments, including dough hooks that I did not have with the older model, are better made than the older ones and appear to be stronger. They work very well. You also have a storage stand that is well designed and very useful.

The mixer may be a little heavy but that is not a bad thing. It does not wave around as a friend's machine that I once used always did and it has 5 speeds plus a quick burst function. When creaming butter and sugar, as an example, I start slow and as the mixture softens I increase speed a step at a time until it becomes light in colour and light in texture.

I said that I produced the lightest cakes ever when I first got the big stand mixer and this can almost match those results. In fact, I use the two in more or less equal proportions, as the hand mixer comes into its own when I need to have 3 or 4 bowls in simultaneous use as there would then be no room for the larger mixer.

An excellent price and brilliant performance, and an established maker with a known track record - you cannot really ask for more.

    UPDATE @ 12-2013
After almost three years of regular use, the mixer still looks and works as when new. About the only times I choose not to use it are when mixing some of the heavier bread doughs, especially in larger quantities and which I do frequently, and when mixing batter sufficient for two large cakes which I do sometimes. For every other situation, it is in almost constant use.

I would definitely recommend if asked.
