I wanted a processor that was small enough to leave out so that it would get plenty of use but big enough that doing soup wouldnt be a complete nightmare!
This fits the bill. I use it just about every day to chop veg up... the up side is i use more veg in cooking, whihch has to be a good thing.! It also doesnt take up much space in the kitchen!
Its also made a few lovely soups as well.
Easy to take apart/ put together and use as well.
    Definately recommended!!
The booklet only has a few recipes but is designed to tell you more whats possible with it. A little downside!

Don't be fooled into thinking you're getting a 2 litre capacity bowl here, there's only just over 1 litre useable volume.I was looking for a processor to chop vegetables but this one just isn't suitable for chopping more than about one onion at a time otherwise you have to stop and remove some to finish some by hand before the rest is chopped to mush. The processor bowl fits onto the motor over a central removable spindle and sometimes it's a fiddle to get all this to line up and work, also the spindle can come away with the bowl and then drop out. The liquidiser is very good though, and so easy to clean. I wish I hadn't bought this processor. If you want to do small quantities you'll be fine, otherwise save up and buy one with a decent capacity, or buy a good knife, it may be quicker. Don't be fooled by what the maker puts on the box either, check their website for full product details before you buy.

Having read the various reviews on Amazon, I have to agree with the negative comments, having just spent 30 minutes cleaning the kitchen after a 'jug disaster'. After blending #a very lovely# soup, the simple twist to free the jug from the motor unit also managed to untwist the blade part from the jug. Result: soup everywhere! Kenwood's reply to someone reporting the same problem was that the base should be held at the same time as untwisting the jug, but the very good #yes, I said good#feet keep the unit firmly attached to the work surface. Even so, I did hold the bottom of the unit whilst untwisting the jug and still ended up with the same result.

Another comment noted by another reviewer is about the burning smell. I have only used the processor 4 #FOUR!!!!# times, each time with the jug, and have also noticed this burning smell, as if the motor is about to pack up on me. Perhaps I'm lucky the jug disaster struck before the smoke thing mentioned in one of the reviews.

I'll be calling Kenwood tomorrow. Wonder what their response will be this time. My advice to you: If you don't yet possess an FP220, don't bother!

I am delighted with my 'Kenwood Compact'. It's powerful motor makes it very efficient and it is excellent for all basic tasks. It makes excellent cakes and pastry, and proved helpful with marmalade making (juicer and chopping blade). I like its compact size - it is just right now we are a family of two. A larger family may need the next size up.

September 2009. I bought this to replace an older Kenwood of a similar size and I like the fact that there is a separate blender attachment for the same base, which I didn't have before. It is quite noisy to use - more of a high pitched scream than the old one and during the half dozen times I have used it, it emits a slightly strange smell, which I hope is just the motor settling in (and not it about to burn out!!!). The blades and attachments are easily slotted in and are easy to wash up. For the price, it seems to do a good job.

    Update 9 months later:
The motor died during some unchallenging pastry making. If you want a machine that lasts longer than a few months, look elsewhere!

Agree with reviews saying this once great brand is now cheaply made.
I wanted it to chop vegetables for use in risottos etc.
It broke on it's 3rd use with the problem of it not recognising the jug was attached.

Sometimes you assume one-star reviewers are clumsy or stupid, but it clearly broke.

We buy things to last and we were unbelievably careful with it in the hope that it would last me for 5 years or more.
Doubly disappointed with the cost to the environment of a binned product all the packaging and transport.

While it worked; the chopping and grating functions worked quite well although there is a slight design flaw when slicing:
often the last piece would not get sliced and end up under the lid. This meant turning ther machine off, taking the lid off, removing bit and then carrying on.
The whole point of the machine is that it's supposed to be quicker than chopping by hand so this is an annoying problem.

Refunded and haven't bought a replacement as I've no idea what to buy now...
I'm starting to think using a sharp knife and watching videos on how to chop efficiently is the way to go.

I hate the way modern products are deliberately no longer built to last with the knowledge that it's cheaper to replace the products of the few people who have the sense to return them.

A brillant processor, ideal for chopping veg, grating cheese, pastry, juicing, smoothies and mixing. Came with a blender and juicer attachment included.
Just the right size and doesn't take up too much room on the worktop so at hand to use time and time again. Had mine since Aug 08 and its still going strong and gets lots of use. Can be a bit noisy but then most processors are! Would recommend.
