Where to begin? I LOVED this book – it was a breath of fresh air! I laughed and laughed – just loved it.
Kenna is a single mom at 27 – she adopted 5 boys! FIVE! She is a reviewer and book blogger. Just those few details made me LOVE her immediately. She is hilarious and handles the boys so smoothly – I have one son and wish I could handle him as well as she handles FIVE! After the boys go off to school Kenna visits her favorite coffee shop – where she reads and blogs away. Cue in Jax – he sees her, obsesses over her and asks her out – she eventually says yes, but not before trying to scare him away.
Kenna: “I stared directly into his eyes before I dropped the bomb on him.” “ Because I have five kids.” Jax to himself: “Did she just say five kids?”
What could be greater than reading about a reviewer who LOVES the same genre as you? “ Look. I’m a mother, but I’m not dead. For that matter, I’m a young mother, with a taste for dirty books and a very wild imagination” LOVE KENNA!!!
For anyone who knows me – you know I am the typo queen (my reviews are edited – thank god for all of you!!) This had to be my FAVORITE line in the entire book. “Oh, I certainly did want to come, inside.” “See what I did there? Commas are an amazing thing.” OMG, HILARIOUS!
This is a quick novella that can be read within an hour or so – my only wish is that it was longer, much longer. I cannot wait for the second book Kenna’s Musing due out on Oct 31st – I know exactly what I will be doing on Halloween (besides giving away candy.)
Kenna Pierce has managed to combine her love of reading and her degree in creative writing into a job as a romance book reviewer/blogger. After getting her five adopted boys off to school, this 27 year old single mom heads to her favorite coffee shop to sip iced mocha lattes and work. One day her work is interrupted by a tall, handsome stranger staring at her from across the room. When he braves asking her out, Kenna is sure that she has been set up as the butt of the joke by her girlfriends. Mr. Single and Sexy doesn’t give up even after Kenna drops the bomb that she is the mother of five.
Kenna Pierce has her act together. She’s good looking, smart, and generous. She turns into a low-class catty girl on her first date with Jax which seemed out of character given how Kenna was previously described to readers. Fortunately, it appears that her out-of-character behavior was merely the result of dancing with the green-eyed monster (yes, on the first date).
Jaxson Dowe, 32 year old executive banker, is sexy and suave. He is committed only to his status as a single player. When in a relationship he is monogamous, however, he makes it clear that a relationship with him is never for keeps. Jaxson winks so much that you might think he has a facial tick (read: the winking was totally over done).
The plot of Kenna’s Reverie is quickly paced. The main characters meet in the first scene and have an instant attraction. Jaxson’s persistence pays off with a date which leads to more. There were a few jumps in character to get to where the author wanted the story to go. I had a hard time buying that a man who “doesn’t do kids or commitment” would continue to pursue a woman who has five kids (it might have been more believable if the kids hadn’t been revealed in the first scene). The relationship does develop over a several weeks as the character interaction is primarily dates on the weekend after their first encounter. Although both main characters feel an instant attraction, their relationship develops a bit before they become intimate.
Kenna’s Reverie by Claire Granger is a quick read. Kenna and Jax have good chemistry, and although Jax says he doesn’t “do kids” the vibe between him and Kenna’s children is good. There were plot points I didn’t buy and the gratuitous swearing didn’t add anything to the story, but there were plenty of fun, believable scenes when the kids were involved. Overall, it was a fun, easy story that can be read over a lunch break. There is a cliff hanger at the end of the book that is meant to be dramatic and have readers in a tizzy until the next installment is published, however, as the writer states in her story,
“You know, the cliche we all make fun of but all secretly envy. Who cares if the plot is predictable? For that matter, all romance is predictable because in order to be considered romance, there must be a happy ending, right? So really, everything in between is just filler to get to the happy ending.”
This was a 2.5 star read for me. It is a good palate-cleanser read to rid yourself of a book hangover.
This was a pretty straightforward romance with enticing dialogue and full of heat.
I picked it up because it has one of my favourite romance concepts of the heroine being a mom. And the fact she is a book blogger just added the tiny push for me to want to read it without hesitation. The characters are well defined with their various mindsets and roles. They all have depth which helped me keep reading the book. I absolutely loved Kenna with her giggle inspiring inner thoughts and Jax surprised me. I was honestly expecting a typical bachelor but he turned out to be more sweet. Though he didn't know he was up to the challenge of falling for a woman with kids, he seriously rocked the family scenes. The kids kind of were background noise to me except Gage. As far as I am concerned he totally kept my attention with his snarky attitude. The things he does for his girlfriend! *lol*
The book had the 2 POVs thing working for it. And you guys know, I love peeking into my main characters' minds. The dialogue didn't lose any flow and actually, I didn't feel the time slipping while I was reading the book. It was a very short romance book with a very big cliffhanger. It felt as if the story was just starting and I was at the end suddenly. It felt rather abrupt. And that get's a negative in my book. But this has piqued my interest to get my hands on the sequel. I am so looking for more Kenna-Jax sparks. Seriously I could literally feel the electricity between the two. Whoever comes in between got to beware!
In short, adult romance lovers would love this book with the emphasis on sweet, snarky and funny.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
Talk about Insta-love!! Claire Granger had me by the end of the first chapter with this irreverent, sweet, funny and oh so sexy story of Kenna Pierce, the full time adoptive single mum to 5 rambunctious boys and part time book blogger and Jaxson Dowe, the way too sexy for his own good, hot as hell banker.
Kenna's dedication to her sons was wonderful to read. It was also great to read about adoptive parenting issues and the way Kenna handled them. You couldn't help but like Jaxson, who was being the typical bachelor playa, not understanding the changes in his feelings towards Kenna and then creating relationships with Kenna's boys. Some of the interactions with the boys were hilarious but very believable.
The sexual chemistry between Kenna and Jaxson was off the charts and extremely well described. Claire Grangers writing style is definitely one of fun and nastiness. Loved the humour amongst the sweetness and the sexiness.
A great quick read and I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in Kenna's story - KENNA'S MUSINGS.
OMG you had me laughing out loud when the kids started talking about her date and Gage (her son) tells her to “Make sure he wraps it up,” There is a whole dialog there that is quite funny. I won’t say more but, these kids were something else.
I really enjoyed this book and can you say “Cliffhanger” Because of course there is a huge one! I hope it doesn’t take long for the next book! Because I really need to know what happened!
Kenna’s Reverie was a gift given for an honest review. I give it 4.5 stars.
