4.0 out of 5 stars Great Beginning.....! 17 Jan. 2014

Music listeners who followed the careers of The Five Stairsteps will definitely appreciate finally being able to listen on CD to Keni Burke's first solo effort from the period when the four brothers signed with George Harrison's Dark Horse Records label after their association with Buddah Records where they scored their biggest hits came to a conclusion. Amazon recently announced the forthcoming reissue of Keni's first solo effort along with The Stairsteps landmark release also on the Dark Horse label from 1976 - "2nd Resurrection" - when they were in one of their most creative periods and the music scene was less tightly formatted and more receptive to music that wasn't so formulated. I was personally active in the industry at that time and had the privilege of hearing some of the tracks from this release before it hit the streets. I've been listening for decades to a CD copy of the original vinyl LP but just recently received my new CD version through Amazon.....and now, the fun is 'on' again!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Listening To The Music! 8 July 2014
By rayalen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Keni Burke is one of the most talented musician/songwriter/vocalist, who never achieved the recognition and success he deserved. His voice was unique, different, and somewhat unusual, but still pleasing to the ear. Keni Burke should have reached the same stardom as one who came after him, dressed in royal purple. Similar to the group he was a part of with his brothers and sister comprising the Five Stairsteps from Chicago, that never came close to achieving the fame of those five boys from Gary who also came after. Every track on this his first solo CD had hit potential, whether it was vocal or instrumental. I found it impossible to pick a favorite song, because they are all my favorite. Keni Burke's talent was overlooked or missed by many in 1977, but thanks to this reissue many now have the opportunity to discover and enjoy his music.
