Top Customer Reviews

Format: Paperback
Rhys was a friend of Dylan Thomas and the husband of Lynette Roberts, another recuperated poet of the 40s and 50s. This edition has a great foreword by Jim Perrin and an excellent introduction by the editor Charles Mundye. It also brings together many poems no-one knew about, or which had got lost in magazines and review over the years. Rhys is always exuberant, often moving (as in his extraordinary poem about the Aberfan disaster), and always eccentric and a bit wild. There are some lovely photographs too. It's a brilliant introduction to the experimental poetry of Britain and Wales in the post-war period. Some great war poems too. A poet who deserves to be better known. I can guarantee that even if you don't like it all, you'll not find anything comparable anywhere else.

Exactly as expected from a book with a Foreword by Jim Perrin and an author associated with Dylan Thomas. Memories of yesteryear to dip into in quiet moments.
