This was an absolutely invaluable book for our last holiday in Kefalonia. I have to be honest I was more interested in the eating than the walking because when we last went to Kefalonia the food was pretty average and I wanted to find some good restaurants. We went to a lot of the featured restaurants and they were all fantastic, especially Arkondiko in Argostoli and Sunset Taverna (when we found it) in Poros. We even ended up doing some of the walks, especially the ones that went to historical sites. The walk to Assos castle was wonderful, I was so glad we followed the book advice and didn't toil miles up the zig zagging main path, especially as there is not much to see when you get there!

It is packed with lots of fascinating information on the island, worth every penny.

Excited as ever to come across any publication regarding the fantastic island of Kefalonia, several years ago I purchased this book, and proceeded to lap it up. Immediately though I came across several little errors that even to the unseasoned Kefalonia visitor, would be glaring. For example, "Myrtos beach: Scenic beach of silver sand.." Even a first timer would have had it drummed into them that Myrtos may look gorgeous from the viewpoint on the mountain road, but is actually very stony and uncomfortable. It is also unsafe for swimming, but does have terrifically spectacular (big) waves in April - to be watched from some considerable distance! Also mis-spelling of the famous Drogorati Cave (correctly spelled on one page, and then called 'Dragomati' on the next). I'm quite sure that the authors love the island and have travelled it well, but it's these little inconsistencies that would put me for one off using this particular guide. In fact, the only guides that concentrate on this particular island are by Brian and Eileen Anderson - the other being 'Walk & Eat Kefalonia', which is a handy pocket-sized publication with a bit more substance to it.

I've found the best, most thorough and accurate guide, to be the yellow and white 'Kefalonia & Ithaca' - which sadly you have to get once on the island as it's unavailable in the UK. It's in most shops, often out the front on spinner stands, sometimes sealed. Don't be put off that it's 'tourist tat' because in this instance, it won't be!
Good luck :)

Originally written about a decade ago, this guide is now slightly dated but still served us very well on a recent trip to the island. In particular we tried most of the car tours, and although a map would have been useful, the guide was invaluable.

I bought the ebook version of this guide, unfortunately my Kindle was scrambled at the airport so I couldn't access anything whilst I was away, however lucky for me I did read the guide before we left. Small guide which was full of the history of the island, in my view a little too much ancient history and not enough modern history. A brief mention of the Italian massacure on Kefalonia led us to the memorial which the book did mention. A little disappointed with the quality of the guide but it served its purpose in terms of an overview of the island, which by the way is lovely.

There was a lot of information in the Guide about the whole of Kefalonia. We hired a car so we could get round as much as possible. I do know a lot more about Greek mythology now than i did before as a lot of the Guide dealt with this side of the history of the area - if only the guide went into that amount of detail in the present day as something that happened 4,000 years ago (-ish). Wish there were www. links I could press to go to a map instead of having to look through lots of pages to find 1 near end; though there wasn't 1.

This book is a good overview of Kefalonia.
It gives quite good ideas on sightseeing trips and days out around the island.
The book also mentions a bit about the history of the island, and food and drink.
Not bad guide to Kefalonia but a bit too basic, could be more detailed and longer.
A big part of the book is useless information included to fill the pages.
Worth a look for anybody going to Kefalonia though

Very good short book. Have visited Kefalonia before but this is very useful. Ideal to have in the car. Off again this year and will test it out in situ. Covers parts of the island we have yet to explore. Very useful.
