Although there are great swathes of bands breathing life into 80s indie at the moment, there has been a distinct lack of musicians daring to take on the classic sound of British rock legends like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. In step Dave Hyde and Neil Bassett with their band Hyde and Beast, however, to take on this void in the market with their magnificent second album Keep Moving, released via Tail Feather Records on 4th August.

Dave and Neil are no strangers to a life in music - both being better known for drumming in their other bands The Futureheads and The Golden Virgins, respectably. But herein lies the main question about Hyde And Beast: how do two drummers who are veterans at producing light-hearted indie hits come together to write psychedelic rock'n’roll that is afar cry from their former creations? And who writes the drum parts!?

Following on from the band’s first release Slow Down, the aptly named Keep Moving sees the band progress further and further away from the indie rock of their youth, towards an area of music that will likely see them hold a much dearer place in our hearts for years to come. 70s rock n roll guitars, rich gospel harmonies, and enough brass instruments to make you wonder why more bands don’t use them like this, all come together to make a sound that is mature and totally joyful. Listen to the eponymous track, and you hear music that is both wistful about the past, and finds its niche very nicely in the modern market. It’s challenging to have neither a huge grin on your face, nor a care in the world after listening to it.

Sunshine in music form.
I'm going to a festival this year with these on the line up so decided to give this album a go......What a lovely smiling album this is.
I'm now a huge fan & cannot stop listening to this album. It reminds me of summertime & sitting on the grass with a big smile & a beer in hand.

If you are a bit fed up with all the negativity in life, put this album on & forget the world for a while......Utter tonic.

An intriguing album - echoes of the late 60's and early 70's but with a current overlay

Love this album!! Really good - a bit of a cross between T Rex and The Beach Boys.
