Reviewing a calendar is a tame affair, but the important thing is to take time and buy the one that suits. I tend to vary from the more picturesque, to the more "wordy" like this one. So for next year it is a calendar of various quotes, slogans and mottos. I have had a brief run through some of the dates, and I like the small anticipation of wondering what the next day,s slogan will be. These page-a-day calendars stand quite neatly on the desktop, and I wouldn't be without one for a fresh start to the year. Ripping off each date in the morning is my way of starting the day off, and with the content of this calendar there will be some thought to ponder about.

This is one of those page-a-day tear-off calendars, which gives 365 different slogans, sayings or mottos (as well as the usual stuff like the date). They are not diaries, so no scope for writing your own notes and not really useful for planning. Instead they're designed to give you a chuckle or to get you thinking at breakfast time... I often enjoy sending particularly appropriate pages to my friends, when today's saying was obviously written for them!
The theme for this calendar is the old war-time slogan, which gets everywhere these days. Effectively, this calendar gives you a motivational boost each morning with a snappy one-liner (or longer), intended to gee up anyone staring blearily at a terrifying inbox, unassailable workload or minor personal crisis.

You will find that the message on some days totally misses the mark. 'After a bad harvest, sow again' is a fairly traditional theme, and I like ones along the lines of 'Life has two rules: Number 1, never quit! Number 2, always remember rule number 1' which made me wonder if that's where Fight Club came from! But some on some days the quote can be just plain chirpy and irritating. If you prefer ironic and dry humour, then maybe this calendar isn't for you. It's very straightforward; very bounce-bounce-bounce, up and at 'em.
This is a more lighthearted calendar than my personal favourite ( Zen Calendar Page-A-Day). It's also more straightforward and less baffling than the Zen one can be! So if you know someone who needs a bit of a boost in the morning, some straight talking to cheer them up, then this makes an ideal gift. Just bear in mind that the info tends to be quite American, so isn't tailored towards UK holidays, clock changes, etc.

A very disappointing day by day quotes. The quotes are un inspiring and mostly boring. I can not recommend this calendar as I assume each year will be full of similar uninteresting quotations.
