I was lucky enough to travel a lot as a child, getting a real-life geography lesson.
I started tour leading in Spain and later in South America, and really fell for the Andes, what amazing trekking and mountaineering opportunities!
I spent several years leading trekking tours and writing about travelling and trekking in Ecuador, Bolivia, Patagonia and Peru. The research took me to many amazing places I am unlikely to have seen otherwise, meeting a variety of people, seeing fascinating cultures, landscapes, museums, markets etc.
This led me to set up my own business, Andean Trails (www.andeantrails.co.uk) in 1998 because I wanted to do something I truly believed in. I didn't want to work for anyone else, and I wanted the freedom to continue exploring and travelling - I was looking for a lifestyle business..
After 15 successful years of Andean Trails I was feeling rather computer and office bound so established a small cycle tour company in my home city of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Bike Tours was born.
I still work at Andean Trails, travelling in the Andes frequently and continue to explore avidly.
