Product Description

Product Description

A singer, songwriter, musician and performer of rare talent, Kate Bush is arguably England s finest ever female artist. And despite, these days, fairly long gaps between new albums, she has yet to release any work which does not stand up against the music she made in her heyday. This 2 DVD documentary set is a fitting tribute to Kate s extraordinary career as it tells the story of her life and work from her beginnings, through her glory years of the 1970s and 1980s, and onto her more recent albums and less visible lifestyle. This collection is made up of the previously released films Kate Bush-Under Review and Hounds Of Love A Classic Album Under Review , both of which contain rare footage, archive interviews, contributions from those who have known her best and some of the finest music ever made, as well as a host of other features. Finished in deluxe 6-panel digi-packaging this set forms an economical but elegant way to obtain both these classic DVDs at a much reduced price. THIS SET IS NOT AUTHORISED BY KATE BUSH

Well as no one else has posted any opinions on this I suppose I'd better be the first. I'm only going to comment on the content of this two-disc set rather than the subject as you already either love Ms Bush or you don't.

The first disc is a chronological review of her work from The Kick Inside up to and including Aerial. That's a lot to get through so it's all a bit rushed, with only the singles really getting examined by a selection of talking heads. There are clips of the original videos though, plus a few excerpts from vintage interviews with Kate. The overall production quality isn't great - this is an `unofficial' release after all, so don't go expecting BBC documentary standards - and my enjoyment was marred by the picture and sound being slightly out of sync.

The second DVD starts by reiterating some of what's already been covered on the first disc but only as a prelude to Hounds of Love. This disc is dedicated to that release with every track discussed by a more satisfying selection of talking heads, including music journalists and one of the album's drummers. A musicologist is also on hand to deconstruct the songs and explain the chord structures. The production quality is higher on this disc and we get to hear longer clips of the tracks.

The screen format suggests neither disc is a new production and I suspect that the individual DVDs have previously been available as standalone releases. But in the absence of any official DVDs this package should bring a little sunshine into the lives of all Kate's followers. Because despite a few complaints about the quality of the first disc it was still great to see clips of her seminal videos again, and the second disc was worth the purchase price on its own.

If your a massive fan of kate Bush, and purchased the DVD 'Under Review' which I also did around the same time as 'Ariel' was released,
then DO NOT buy this as it is exactly the same. I was furious. The second disc was just an inaudible interview with kate which no matter how high you raise the
volume, you can not hear a thing.
If You haven't got Under Review, then buy that. It's cheaper and exactly the same.

I agree with the reviewers who have stated that both films here are enjoyable and tell us a lot about Kate that has previously not been revealed as far as I'm aware, includes some excellent archive footage and interviews too which make this double disc set both very worthwhile ans at 12 quid for the pair good value for money.

Bush hits the Heights

By

Rob Jones

This lady is an original act that sits in a category of one and does not pander to scenes and trends. Her aural admirers consist of diverse artists such as John Lydon, Tricky, David Gilmour and Peter Gabriel. Enigmatic, extraordinary and otherworldly-the plaudits justifiably roll on and on………
The worthy recipient of this praise is Kate Bush who still defies the odds with her unique and uncompromising stance. A recipe of aural, visual, theatrical and choreographic ingredients has made this English eccentric an inspiring and influential force.
Her arrival forged the way for individuality and s 70’s and 80’s back catalogue can still stand the test of time. Kate Bush: A life of Surprises is a fine 2 DVD set that explores the life and times of a phenomenal female force. The 180 minute package takes the viewer from a start as an aspiring songstress onward to a post millennium juncture. The product places a heavy concentration on the period between The Kick Inside and Aerial before the Hounds of Love album is also dissected. There are archive interviews, interesting contributions plus rare footage-and, in a world where Bush material is less rather than more this treat is an essential purchase.

A fine double DVD set on the rise and career of Kate Bush, it only takes the girl's story up to the Aeriel album, so misses the big comeback conerts a couple of years back, but well worth getting and very well presented in fold-out packaging. Includes 2 x DVDS.
